If you compare this to any other stuff that Rick was doing in the late 80s, this in any form is very different. Yeah, it's a cover, but his style of singing, the production, the sound of life in him... everything. This sounds just simply great, like he was back in his greatest form. You were the bomb!

It took his death before I really took note of his music, now I see what a great talent he was. R.I.P. My daughter spoke with him at a local restaurant two days before his death and he was very friendly to her. Great guy, great entertainer.

Rick was a great singer. His accomplishments never showed the real person and his great falsetto voice like showcased in this song. He had a album called garden of love which almost ruined his career. But in my opinion one of his best ever . As it showcased his talent as a singer !!! From his first album the song Hollywood was epic. I remember watching it on don Kershner rock concert . And my mother said now son i know why you like him so much he can sing . RIP my friend 🙏🙏🙏

Outstanding performance, Odinthorsen. Rick did a fantastic job with this classic and it seems he was having a *magic moment* himself on that stage. I, too, miss him dearly. Thankfully, his voice will live on forever. ~~

Years ago, I discovered Rick James on one of those late night music shows like MTV, and was blown away, by his voice, and physical 'presence,' he owned the stage. I've discovered since how diversified and talented he was. 'Standing on the Top' with the Temptations was a masterpiece. I've never been into 'fandom', or the 'groupie' thing, BUT he was 'hot.' Sad he was taken so soon, but he lived his life on the edge the way he wanted to.

many of you are asking where this came from. From my memory this was a limited edition MTV special dance mix CD with various artists. I remember seeing this on MTV (back when they were about music) and being blown away. Sometimes they played it at clubs.

For anyone interested, this song was on an album in 1989 called "Rock, Rhythm & Blues". It was a 50's style album featuring various artists of the 80's. This album is very underrated, look for it and buy it if you can find it. You wont be disappointed. Here is the playlist 1. I'm Ready - Elton John 2. This Magic Moment/Dance With Me - Rick James 3. For Your Precious Love - Michael McDonald 4. Fever - Chaka Khan 5. Ten Commandments of Love, The - Howard Hewett 6. I Wanna Be Your Girl - Manhattan Transfer 7. It's Just a Matter of Time - Randy Travis 8. Mr. Lee - The Pointer Sisters 9. Roll With Me Henry - Christine McVie & Friends 10. Goodnight My Love - El DeBarge

I actually prefer the more reggae beat of this song but then again, after I went to my 1st dance club, that just happened to be a reggae club a friend picked out & we went out in a group, I was hooked from that moment. It's like nobody can screw up dancing to reggae; it goes right thru you. My DH couldn't crew up reggae dancing & he doesn't dance-altho, for the 1st time in 25+yrs, he FINALLY danced w/me for the 1st x @ our oldest daughter's wedding last yr,He can't dance but I luv'd every minute

No it isn't! This is combination of two hit songs by the DRIFTERS! Jay & the Americans did a cover version later on, but the Drifters did the original hit recordings in 1960 and just happened to be top hit the week I was born. That it is why Rick James is singing them here, because of the Drifters.
