I don't want Ross to change. He's consistently good and as a fan, I appreciate it. His production selection and lyricism are both appreciated. When other rappers have tried to "switch" it up or grow, they deliver bullshit. Hence "More Life" Drake the Jafake-in from Atlanta in the UK. Or Kanye with His last 2 releases. overall I liked Rather You than Me. His and Big Seans are best of 2017 so far
@mannypaul7369

I find Rick Ross's ability to rap with a "from Rags to Riches" perspective to be very well done, even if most of his lyrics are primarily about being rich, his way of adding a sense of growth to get to the lifestyle he lives today and to speak about it from a person who's hungry's perspective really adds some humanity to him that I don't find in most mainstream rappers, heck even most rappers in general. This is the first Ross album I listened to, I've always heard him on radio hits and a few of his own songs I liked too but I never found anything all that fascinating about him. I'm a little skeptical on listening to his older shit but I just might do so now, I think Rick Ross really knows how to create pictures in his raps when he wants to on this album. To compare him to biggie would be overlooking what makes Ross unique and different from him, as far as "character", biggie and Ross are two completely different people and rappers. Maybe he really should stray away from his regular formula but when I think about it I really don't know how he would sound lol, all I know is that Rick Ross is lyrically under appreciated, and I agree he sounds like a literal boss and a true leader on this album, and the combination of his lyrical creation with the production on the majority of this album really do sound like art to me, I hope this album doesn't get slept on and hopefully what he says will impact hip-hop positively. The only track I didn't like was she on my dick, it wasn't bad but it didn't impress and surprise me on the level that the rest of the album did, and the best tracks in my opinion are Apple of my Eye, Santorini Greece, and Scientology for sure. Great review!

I get what Feefo saying and that's an interesting thought. Ross has worked with Kool G Rap, Raekwon, Nas, JayZ, UGK, Scarface etc. and has held his own. An album with only the type of songs he made with them would produce an amazing Ross album cuz it'd cut away all the BS and force him to rhyme like he does with those guys on a track. It'd also be nice to have a shorter project from Ross that's more like 45mins

This album for me started out super strong then dived horribly later. I couldn't get past the intro and Raphael Saadiq's feature of the year on Apple of My Eye. The godly instrumental on Santorini Greece, then the hyped up Birdman not diss but "I'm so disappointed in you" on Idols Become Rivals then followed by Trap...then from there, nah I'm good. Album didn't pick up until track 10 (Scientology). My disappointment came from me keeping the intro on repeat and thinking this is going to be Ross's best album yet, but I was let down on this one.

Think the guys missed something with Idols Become Rivals. The reason Ross felt personal about the Birdman situation and stepped in to say something is literally in the title of the track... He says on the song he used to watch Birdman on TV and wanted to be like him and now Birdman is doing all this fuck shit to his homies in the game. The connection to Birdman is he used to idolize him and now because of his actions he feels like he has become his rival...
