That means that only certain people can be part of the militia because the rest don't make the cut so to speak. @DeepPackChopra

+Zach Cushing You don't sound very pro-gun to me. The 2nd Amendment doesn't say that members of the militia have the right to keep and bear arms, it says that *the people's* right to keep and bear arms *shall not be infringed.* Many US states define militia members as able-bodied citizens between the ages of 18 and 45, but this doesn't mean that once you turn 46, you lose your *right* to keep and bear arms. Blind people *are people,* and their right to keep and bear arms is protected by the 2nd Amendment. *"I understand why they're upset, but it's about safety."* "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." -- Benjamin Franklin
@A_friend_of_Aristotle

Also, what the framers meant was that since the militia was the national defense force (due to no standing armies) it would be nice if those "able bodied" guys were good enough (well regulated) so that training them as an army during a national military type emergency (like an invasion) wouldn't be an issue. They could be called up and deployed quickly. Also, since every citizen has the natural right to defend themselves, any law restricting or abridging that right would be the same as enslaving them to the worst elements of society...including criminally ambitious and unscrupulous politicians. And retards. Like the English King at the time. You know, King what's-his-name. The retarded one who talked to trees. Yeah...the inbred MF'er who ran the British Empire back then was barking mad. +yourtv Rather than that we should really think about why in early 1930's machine guns were sold over the counter with no mandatory paperwork and there were no mass shootings this side of organized crime turf wars. Or why the only confirmed incident since 1934 when a legally possessed machine gun in the US has been used in homicide happened in September 1988 and to insult to injury, the perpetrator was a Dayton, Ohio police officer. It's pretty sick that some people concentrate in demonizing, restricting and banning inanimate objects and lobby for "understanding" the "hardships" of violent criminals. So much for taking responsibility for one's actions or advocating it in society in general. Or understanding logic and reason, for that matter. An increasing number of gun owners are in the brink of not giving a flying f%#k what left-wing collectivist lobby wishes to ban, which is by far the worst situation; turning people who take real personal pride in abiding the law into "criminals" by the stroke of a pen. Disarming the population in general is a pipe dream and with notable exceptions of feodal Japan, totalitarian combloc and the third Reich, it has been one as long as humans have existed. I would guess that marksmanship isn't a criteria in the licensing jurisdiction. Some states have what's called "will issue" concealed permits. This means that unless they are restricted by a criminal background or mental health problem, they cannot be denied the right to carry a concealed weapon for any reason. This includes whether or not they know how to use the weapon. Before you hyperventilate over this fact, it's important to note that the majority of gun related accidents occur in the home while cleaning or playing with the bloody thing...not while carrying it concealed. Also, most gun owners in those states do know how to use them. So it's not an issue to anyone but habitual pants shitters.

shooter77us My local gun store sells HK416 rifles. Can you buy them in the USA? No. Automatic rifles are banned in the USA, and have been for a long time. You can buy ones that were made before the ban, yes. But you can't buy any modern automatic rifles and the ones you can get may only be purchased from previous owners at costs equal to that of buying a new car. I would call that a ban, for all intents and purposes, as does the Firearm Owners Protection Act. American gun laws are restrictive compared to many places, just because you have less gun laws than a gun-ban country like England doesn't mean you have a gun culture. You used to have a gun culture, a long time ago when your people could carry guns without being harassed or banned from going into stores. But you no longer have that. If I were to visit your country I'd see you as you would see England, as a very restrictive nation toward guns. I do apologize for that, I don't like that, I would rather you were far more accepting toward guns as much as I'm sure you do. But the fact of the matter is that you have some very heavy restrictions and anti-gun rhetoric that you need to get rid of before you can be welcomed into the global gun community.

cloud819 I posted on another video once and people assumed I was from Asia or Arabia because there are a few countries there that allow automatic firearms. I'm actually from South America. Because I'm a Native American I am bound only by the laws and custom of my traditional government; not that of the colonial powers that you see on maps. Similar to Native Americans in your own country who have special laws on their land (or "reservations"). Our custom allows us to acquire or carry any small arms; defined as any weapon an individual soldier may be trusted with. One of the primary reasons for us to have this right is because we were attacked by the Spanish, and were forced to take up arms to defend ourselves. Today, we keep this right, which is a good thing as well. The alternative is to accept slavery at the hands of a nation like Brazil; filled with crime and poverty and corrupt to the core. Many assume our people to be poor, but when you cross the border from Brazil to our land it is like crossing from Africa to Japan. We are polite, kind, free from crime, and developed. ^^;
@cloud819

Mez Kitsu Thanks for the reply, very interesting. Here our native governments have very strict limitations placed on them. While sometimes referred to as sovereign, the truth is that the powers they have a controlled by the federal government and by the state they reside in. Largely they handle local tribal matters and sadly have a high tendency for corruption. There are lots of horrid cycles and systems that are very hard to change. Both inside the reservations and the way the larger governments handle Natives. Don't get me wrong it could be a lot worse, but there is a lot of healing to happen before it gets better. Well, thanks again for the info. Have a great day.

Why not just go for the black markets even harder? Last I checked if there was a total ban criminals are criminals, they still will hold their guns and we would be doomed. Also when there is a gun free zone or total ban (Piers never mentions this) the statistics of ALL crime go up because criminals know we can't protect ourselves while they have guns.

I can tell you that i'm game dev for a huge company, living in a country that is not by any measure a third world country, has a law given 22 days a year vacation (22 days more than the 2nd world US) and by any standard is better than the US. But you don't wanna hear that, and if it's important for you where i'm from, you are a moron my friend. What does the situation of one's country has to do the chances of me being born there, and what i think or believe as a full grown man who has seen half of this planet and lived on 3 continents? It's just a reason for you to point some shit out, because as we already established, USA is no1. So go away if this is the only thing that you can hang to, in order to have an argument. Normally I slap down every sentence that comes out of piers's mouth but this is an interesting point. In America, the Bill of Rights (first 10 amendments) are sacred. Under no circumstances can they be compromised. That is why even when confronted with a case as heinous as the Westboro baptist church, the Supreme Court had to rule in their favor. I'm sure it seems illogical to people outside the US, but those laws are the heart, soul, and spine of this country. To compromise them would be the beginning of the end of America.
@dkong13able

No, that's absolutely false. As you said the Bill of Rights are just the first 10 Amendments in the Constitution which means that by law they can be changed through the same process as any other Amendment can be changed through.
@MrCurbinator

ok let me rephrase that. Legally speaking, you can modify the bill of rights. Culturally and logistically speaking, you can modify them in the same manner that it is theoretically possible to steer a car with no arms. The consequences would be dire. Once you modify one, everything becomes fair game. Search and seizure (already under heavy risk) free speech. Due Process. The slippery slope cannot easily be reversed, if at all.

Uhhhh; Ok, I realize I may not move in the deeply intellectual spheres as these two but we are talking about ownership NOT use here. Really, no one can see the difference? So a blind person can not own a car collection? Of course they can not drive them (on public roads) but why could they not own them. I know many people who collect and own firearms they have never fired and would never fire. On that note, I own a farm but a do not farm it. I pay a farmer to do that. Since I am not a farmer I can't own the farm. On that note I have owned firearms since I was 12 and have never shot anyone with them. It's just so weird how so many people can not *think* anymore. Emotional reaction and sarcasm are held in higher esteem than thoughtful opinion. No wonder this moron of off the air.

Americans buy guns in order to defend themselves, whether there's a case when it occurs or not, but a blind person having a gun is completely pointless, again they can't see what they're shooting so they could end up killing someone completely innocent. A blind person shouldn't have the right to own a weapon when it is completely useless to them. I don't care if this is harsh, it's true. They also shouldn't be allowed to drive. And if they want to own a collection of cars they will never see or touch, fucking whatever, it's pointless so they're just wasting their own damn money, just never let the bastards behind the wheel. But a collection of weapons they could never use without likely killing some innocent passing by, don't be a retard.

Here is something I don't understand, and someone more informed than me on this can perhaps fill me in, but if carrying weapons is all about the freedom to do so, then why aren't people allowed even more powerful weapons, such as explosives or tanks? Surely if you were completely free, you'd be able to have anything you wanted - or do anything you wanted. From my point of view, the reason you're not allowed to do what you want, or carry what you want, is for your own protection - and the protection of those around you. I believe that people need to be moderated and kept in line. If we didn't have rules and regulations, we'd have anarchy. I personally think that firearms fall on the side of things that we shouldn't be allowed to own, but then I'm not an American, so I don't have a great love for these weapons. Just my thoughts and an honest question. Why stop at firearms if freedom is so important?
@TheNova1960

Ashley Small We're are allowed to have more powerful weapons, explosives and tanks! However, it depends on what State you live in! Example: You can't own a cross bow in Oregon and it's highly unlikely that you can fire a nuke from your backyard! "Shall Not Be Infringed." Easy, the "people" have the right to defend themselves and to protect their property from criminals and that includes the thugs in Washington D.C.! And, I'm not even a gun owner nor am I an expert!

Ashley Small You need a permit that takes a hell of a lot of money to own explosives and tanks that actualy shoot a projectile. As it seems to me you are not an American, you have no concpet of "American freedom". Therefore you would find it hard to undertsand the difference between a normal gun, a tank, and explosives. You can't have a permit to carry a grenade on you becasue regardless if you were seen with an explosive strapped to your chest you'd be thought a terrorist.. You can buy a tank with a special historical licence and you can drive it around, but you cannot have a working main gun on your tank unless you own a special permit for that. You cannot carry a gun concealed unless the state, (like Kansas) allows you to carry a concealed weapon without a permit.

But also remember that any politician that comes on campus--not often--are armed, or their guards are armed. Keep in mind, guns are there to protect them at all times, NOT you and I. We don't rate. We call the police, while we die, and they come running--twenty minutes or so, and guess what? They are not ALLOWED to rush on campus until they know where the shooter is, did you know that? I can't blame them for that, but still. And no guns on campus. Am I saying everyone should have one? NO way, just a few licensed teachers, maybe a coach or two: people who have taken the training, passed all the tests--and many should fail those tests. But there should be a few, IMO. But I don't think enough blood has flowed yet, we need more "gun free zone" signs.

True, gun control on the scale and scope of Canada, the UK and even Australia isn't as big of a problem as it is as in the US, but violent crime is. In fact, violent crime in gun control/gun banning countries is many times higher than in the US, speaking per capita. Those who argue for gun bans gloss over or totally ignore general crime statistics and focus only on gun crimes. Well, they do so at your peril. A law abiding citizen in the US is many times safer than a law abiding citizen in most other countries on earth. It's due in great part because their government recognizes their right to defend themselves...with firearms. Gun free zones, restrictive gun regulations and outright bans are only necessary if you want to prevent people from defending themselves...which is a fundamental human right. It's no coincidence that countries with egregious human rights records are also countries that greatly restrict or ban the private ownership of firearms.

I'm 16 years old and live in Florida USA. My dad is a veteran & has owned guns (AR's / M4's / multiple pistols) since I was born. He taught me along with all my siblings never to touch his guns, so we don't. He taught us that if we ever saw a gun to tell him... Once in my entire life (age 7) I saw that he left out a colt .45 on the kitchen table, I ran in and told him, he promptly locked it up. As a kid I never understood why he needed them, as he only used them at shooting ranges. At age 11, 3 armed burglars broke into our home through the living room window. I was up late watching TV because it was summer vacation, so I heard them enter. I immediately ran into my father's room, woke him up, and told him someone was breaking in. He quietly, yet swiftly grabbed his AR and loaded it. He then left the room and I heard 7 shots, I was so scared I didn't know who won. I walked out of the room and I immediately saw my father, unharmed, gun in hand. He told me to go into my room and go to sleep, although of course I couldn't fall asleep. He called the cops and explained what happened, then came the legal proceedings. The next day my dad explained the 3 reasons we as Americans have the right to bear arms. 1. To defend against domestic intruders. 2. To defend against foreign invaders. 3. To be able to revolt against any form of tyranny our government may or may not create. Ever since that day I have loved history, politics, and my American right to own a gun. That's the best I can explain my patriotism for the second amendment of our great constitution. (P.S. ALL 3 of the intruders' guns were NOT registered, meaning they came across the border illegally)

John M I think his point is that Europeans (or any other group for that matter), who immigrate (no small feat) to the US and complain that the US isn't like the country they come from are more than welcome to return to their homeland, and should do so. I, personally, feel the same way about Americans who move from a state like California to one like Texas and want to see the same policies adopted. There's typically reasons you choose to leave your old nation or state behind and move to a new one. This often goes far beyond guns and moves into other issues such as a state's fiscal policies. If where you left is so great, return to it. We have it the way we like it here, so either adapt or go where you're more comfortable. I decided not to move to Germany many years ago (was stationed there for several years) for the very reason that I didn't like many aspects of the German lifestyle. Rather than go over there and be miserable and complain all the time, I chose to come back to the US and live my life here. I don't understand why people think we need to adapt to them, it's an arrogant attitude.

I like how Gervais implied that he wants Piers to choke on a kinder egg, and then stated he wants Piers to choke on the kinder egg. 1:53

To be fair, the vast majority of Brits really don't give a shit what laws America has regarding guns. Two different countries and different cultures. Ours works just fine so it's all good. Piers was just there to make money.

there are varying degrees of blindness, the definition of legally blind could mean that someone has lost an eye or is in need of cataracts surgery, it rarely means that they have completely lost 100% of their sight. If this is the basis of your aurgument than, if you have had a glass of wine in the last 16 hours regardless of the amount, you should not be allowed to drive because you are legally drunk.

Even the most pro-gun American who wants everybody armed; trained or untrained, on the streets in case the government randomly start shooting their own civilians must surely admit that being able to buy a firearm but not a kinder egg is ridiculous!

+Collins LFC The Kinder egg thing is due to an FDA regulation, specifically section 402(d)(1) of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetics Act. It is not legal due to a ban on embedded non-nutritive objects. I emmigrated from Canada and have seen Canadians bring them across the border without realizing that they can be fined up to $2,500 per kinder egg. The Kinder eggs and firearms are only related in that one in constitutionally protected while the other is not. While I am not a believer in bans, if they had to ban one of them, the egg was the better choice. The inability to get a shitty chocolate egg isn't going to ruin my day (we can't get Mars bars either and that may ruin my day).

"AR-15 ASSAULT RIFLE" This is called an oxymoron.

Not technically. The original Armalite AR-15s were select-fire. The term "AR-15" also continues to be used for select-fire rifles that aren't military rifles (post dealer samples, police rifles, etc.). But what the average citizen can walk into a gun store and purchase off the shelf? No, those aren't assault rifles

good for those blind people. im glad their rights aren't violated. piers isn't protected by the constitution. he isn't guaranteed the rights because he isn't a us citizen. should he be denied? no but he shouldn't get too butthurt if we dont defend him either.

for the love of god it's not an assault rifle. It's called an Armalite rifle. It only becomes an assault rifle once it becomes full auto like a m4 or ak

My blind dog would most certainly know who he was shooting. He is blind, he is not a dog for the blind and he certainly knows who is were in a room so maybe it depends on how good the blind persons sense of hearing and smell and space is, not their adaptation to his blindness, not on their blindness.

The kinder egg thing was a false analogy. Kinder eggs are marketed and intended for children. A gun is not sold to a child.
