The last deal is not from centre of the deck, but well thought out illusion. At 2:57 he stacks the aces (putting 4 card in between each). Then he puts couple cards on top of the first ace, runs the cards from top (as a schuffle) until there's just 5 cards left on top of the first ace. After that he deals the cards and when he deals to himself he deals second card from the deck. Wonderful illusion, well thought out as well the rest of the show.

The aces remain together the whole time - he uses an overhand shuffle until there are 5 cards left above the aces, then he deals the other hands as normal and second deals himself an ace. All the remaining cards for his opponents are dealt from the bottom, and the aces are always a second deal.

nope thats not how he does it, he puts 5 cards on top of first ace and staks rest of the three aces by 4 cards in between. he second deals aces then.....ricky jay cant do an actual center deal thats why he resorts to psuedo center deal

phah the last deal isnt a centre deal. He first stacks the deck putting four cards in-between the aces once he has controlled them after putting them "back into the middle of the deck" he then second deals the aces to his hand making it look like a centre deal but this whole show/routine is well thought out and well presented :)

this was a case of a great magician explaining the method of gamblers to attain a certain purpose but at the same time, using these methods against his spectators who, satisfied that now they know how false deals are accomplished. With due respect to Ricky Jay, I have no doubt that he can do the center deal...but the last deal was definitely not a CENTER DEAL....

Ricky Jay is a fav. Ok, but did he false shuffle and not move the cards and center deal? False shuffle and place all the aces in the center? Or false shuffle and place all the aces on the bottom and bottom deal and skip center dealing? One can only speculate and admire the master.

Actually it's not... He uses an overhand shuffle until there are 5 cards above the aces, then he deals 4 from the top, second deals an ace, then bottom deals the remaining cards for his 'opponents' and uses the second deal for the remaining aces. It may not be a centre deal but it's a very convincing and clever manipulation, and he's still the master in my eyes.
@muaj81

u think ricky jay did a legit center deal??? it was totally a second deal. he performed what is called a pseudo center deal
@TonyRush
12 жыл бұрын
@generalmaximus5 There are several ways to do this effect. I think it unlikely he's using gaffed cards since either spectator could clearly see if there were breaks in the deck due to short cards or crimps. I've been in magic for going on 15 years. I've never heard of "magician's oil".
@Gardener33

@xRNEx I think that all the aces are in the bottom, one next to the others. He only puts three or four additional cards in the bottom, those cards he showed us. He starts by bottom dealing for the three first cards and then the aces are in the bottom! He just has to perform an other bottom dealing for each ace, and that's it.

I understand that the center deal it is extremely hard to perform and master, it was meant for exhibition only just like Ricky Jay was doing it in this video. Center deal has been explained in great detail in the book of Expert at the Card Table by S.W. Erdnase (E.S Andrews) and in Revolutionary Card Technique by Ed Marlo and in both it has been offered for exhibition and that is exactly what Ricky Jay was doing in here.

I think he actually did it the set up would require ddddd u dddd u dddd u dddd u d means face down cards, u means face up cards He had 9 cards up on top of the first face up ace. he shuffled 4 of them to the bottom to make the set up work. I could not see him set up the rest of the deck clearly, but I think he did set them up. People might dislike this comment, but I do want to say it. And it is possible to deal aces from the center I will find the link and post it
@MagicOscar

@RS1963 OMG you are right, that was not explained on the book of Expert at the Card Table it was explained on Center Deal by Allen Kennedy, I apologize for the confusion, I was thinking also of that one book by Karl Johnson named The Magician and The Cardsharp in which he told that old old old story about The Professor and Allen Kennedy ... For some reason it got me confused.. And I will agree with you on this one since for lay people it is the same and that was the main purpose of it.

@RS1963 @RS1963 I understand what you mean about magicians doing those things, however, Ricky Jay has a reputation as a magician and as a performer and in this trick he only gives credit to his reputation as a performer not as a magician. Steve Forte he is more of a performer than a magician and its understandable that he would do that, but no Ricky Jay, he is a great magician as well.

I surmise your vision is impaired. If you watch clearly, you will see the individual/respective cards actually being placed in between groups of cards. While the method certainly wasn't a 'center' deal, I would consider asserting that the 4 cards used were on the bottom a mere wild guess, if anything (or of course if the above mention isn't true).
@Isteinier

@Masterofpew There does exist a real center deal. However, it its hard to perform and master. What he did was either a second or bottom deal but he's so good I can't see which of two :)

Which second deal does Jay use here? Strike or Pushoff? IMO England is the best at centers and bottoms right now, but Ricky Jay's second is the most deceptive and the best performed I've ever seen-- ever. Aboslutely imperceptible.
