I found this show randomly late one night and I am enjoying it's wholesomeness. My mother would have grown up watching it so this 80s kid is experiencing it for the first time ☺️

Now I know how these shows were back then in the early 1960s, Ricky was so young and handsome.

In 1968, I spent my 21st birthday packing up my personal belongings, to go home from overseas. I was getting out of the army after a couple of years of active duty.

That is the way line's were at a bank years ago. You might think ,well this line is moving faster so you switch only to see that the one you just leave is going better . lol

@skipper ,If you don't want to watch the show then don't watch . There were plenty of black or other race in show business back then. There is nothing hateful about this show at all . It was a very decent and wholesome thing.

What's somewhat chilling in retrospect is that while the character Ozzie recalled his father having given him some monies for his 21st Birthday, Ozzie's real life father George DIED on Ozzie's actual 21st Birthday in 1927 and Ozzie had to suddenly be responsible for his widowed mother and baby brother!

Wow! Terrible! I have not heard that in all the documentaries I’ve seen of them! I wondered how he managed that while in college. ??? Maybe that’s why he stuck with being a bandleader!

@@cynthiaennis3107 Yep! That's WHY he turned what had been a hobby into the means to help support his family. He DID manage to graduate and get a law degree from Rutgers but since it also was the height of the Depression, he soon found that being a bandleader was far more reliable than seeking work in law firms (those that stayed afloat rarely had monies to hire any new grads). If nothing else, Ozzie was determined from early on- and this was shown via him becoming an Eagle Scout at 13! Oh and he and Harriet BOTH supported their mothers the rest of the older women's lives via their entertainment careers.

Trivia:The dream sequence with Ozzie is a tip of the hat to a very popular TV show. The Millionaire(1955-'60) was about how wealthy John Beresford Tipton(voiced by Paul Frees) would have his employee Michael Anthony(Marvin Miller)deliver a check for $1,000,000 to someone each week who was a stranger to Tipton. That is Marvin Miller in the dream with Ozzie.

I am disappointed in Ozzie and Harriet .Opening that envelope was none of their business, they just made it so .
