Today it was lightly raining when I went out in the morning to get Rico ready for his first Beach Area visit. I decided that it was not raining enough to abort this planned visit.
When we got to the parking lot, we unloaded and just allowed Rico to explore the upper parking lot. When I got to the area just next to the little path down to the actual beach, I noticed that he was “stomping” his rear feet. This was my signal that he was nervous and not yet ready!!!
So we just continued our exploration and allowed him to check out the Porta-potty which he did NOT use this time. He has only ever used it once, but I will continually allow him the opportunity to use it as much as I can.
Another fairly new thing is the retractable leash (lead) which I have only used with him once before. I was thinking that this sort of 16 foot leash would be great for the very short and somewhat steep path down to the actual beach. I had planned to have my hubby hold Rico by the short lead at the top of the path while I carefully got to the bottom of the path with the leash stretched out. After I was reliable standing at the bottom of this path, it was my plan to give Rico some signals to “come one down!!!” Due to his nervousness, I will reserve this for when (and if) he is ready to do some actual beach walking.
Our next visit will be when the tide is low and the forecast is NICE. What a difference low tide makes!!! There was practically no beach yesterday at a higher tide!!!
I have a 6 month probationary period before my “exception” to the “NO LIVESTOCK Rule” is reevaluated. I am thinking there might be more than a few folks who voted against allowing my alpacas might be ready to “pounce” on their opportunity to reinstate the original Rule!!! Some folks just don’t like to make exceptions to rules for any reason!!! I was so overjoyed that the Board of Trustees heard my request and barely got an affirmative vote for me and my boys!!!!
Getting my boys happy on the beach will be my number one endeavor.
I also am planning to make a special pen in their pasture to accommodate an Alpaca Yoga Class where the boys or one boy can be inside the pen and just roam around the participants and even eat from treat bowls that are laid out on their yoga mats!!!
