that is a nice little road. Would love to stop and listen to the birds if I was there. That seemed like a more scenic and relaxing ride with far less traffic. Those small alleyways were appealing.

I loved those little roads. They were so much fun to ride on, and away from all that traffic.

Hey Steve, I wondered what kind of bike luggage you use in your trips, or maybe you rent bikes when you travel abroad?

The first time I went to Italy in 2022, I rented a bike. 60 euros per day (6 day rental) for a nice carbon fiber race bike. I bought a scicon big bag in 2023 for my next trip to Italy. The bag worked great, though I did use pool noodles on parts of the frame, and I wrapped the derailleur with bubble wrap. I checked the bag as my checked luggage (it was subject to the same weight restrictions as a normal bag) and filled it with clothes, tools, etc. I was somewhat skeptical whether a non-hard shell bag would protect my bike but the bike was perfectly fine. Because of the size of the bike, I do have to turn the handle bars down to close the bag zipper, but that is a minor requirement. After 2 trips with the bag, considering a normal 60 euro daily rental for a bike, I am now in the black on the cost.

I have notice quite a few drains with grates and wondering what tire size you have on your bike? I assume around 30mm or larger?

I run 25mm tires. I haven't really had any problem with the grates here. I learned my lesson in Italy last year to avoid them.
