I had one of these back in the 80’s. The TRX wheels and suspension made it handle like a dream. And when you nailed it and that turbo light came on, pure fun! I’m glad to see this old girl still on the road.

@@HOUSEOFDULA - just a suggestion... I used to own a 1984 Turbo GT convertible and it was powered by a turbocharged 2.3 EFI engine. It's basically the same setup as the 84-86 SVO minus the intercooler. Might be a way to rebuild and upgrade the 2.3, plus get a higher level of performance from it. I am glad that you're going to preserve/restore the rest of the car, though. I've always enjoyed watching your videos on your '86.

@@HOUSEOFDULA I'm telling you dude with a little bit of money you can make that for banger outrun any coyote motor I promise you read my comment up top I erase things on circle track when I was 11 we were turning 10,000 RPMs with a built stock 2.3 l motor with a poly 500 carburetor full mistake ignition system mouse trap springs 500 lift cam adjustable timing chain then after I had the stock built motor that I went to the esslinger racing 2.3 l all aluminum Ford 4 cylinder motor that is used in mini sprint cars then it made $500 horsepower the rear wheels but my stock is 2.3 l motor was making $365 horsepower the rear wheels and that will track asphalt car you can make this motor of beast for a little bit of money and you can find racing parts for it all over the internet on any circle track racing website and the reason why it feels like a turd is because that carburetor is junk the stock one is junk please get a Holley 500 two barrel with a 1-in spacer and a big filter I promise it'll make that motor come alive especially with that some good spark plugs and a MSD racing ignition system and it will make you a completely different car and change your mind. My street car that is like yours that I used for no prep racing and stuff like that to make money and grudge racing it literally outruns Coyote motors the new Dodge Challenger hellcats everything it's a beast it'll lift the tires on big drag slicks as well I've had it lift the tires once about an inch off the ground with my street drag radials on it and that was with the stockish motor that I had built it was board 60 over mouse trap springs 500 lift cam Holley 500 etc with the distributor and it's a big 2.3 l build motor stroker to a 2.9 L stroked out to but it's also fully gutted it's a drag streetcar basically now with a four-cylinder and I was 11 back in 2003 when I raced my mustang for the first time and it's a fast class we're turning 10,000 RPMs with these motors. The 2.3 l was the best 4 cylinder ever made hands down I think carbureted wise especially when you put the turbo from the Ford Thunderbird on it makes it come alive as well and it bolts right up and the 2.5 out of the Ford ranger is exact same motor it's just a bigger displacement leader wise and that thing is a beast as well and you can put the turbo off of the Thunderbird on that as well and hopkt right up

This is what my first asphalt oval track car was it's exact same year car 2.3 l Ford four-cylinder with a carburetor we were running Holley 500s completely built motor with a 510 left cam turning 10,000 RPMs on a circle track with racing tires it was a complete race car only thing stock was the frame and the rear end and the manual transmission with a racing clutch the rest of it was all aftermarket the motor was somewhat stock except for had a lot of work done to it on the chassis Dyna we was turning $396 horsepower to the rear wheels. A lot of these cars from the '70s and '80s got destroyed by people turning on the oval track cards for dirt and asphalt because they were cheap to build and run back in the early 2000s and late nineties I was 11 when I ran this car for my first ever race on asphalt all the track I'll tell you it's a blast these are awesome motors that can take a lot of abuse and you can build them up to go pretty fast put your good old Harley 500 carburetor on there with a nice 1-in spacer put your 510 lift cam with a mouse trap springs and that's pretty much it with an adjustable timing chain and you can literally make this thing haul butt with an MSD ignition

If you really want to bad to the Bone built 2.3 l for this car go to esslinger racing they have a built 2.3 l Ford base motor for mini sprint cars it'll bolt right into this car because it has the exact same style block everything except it's all aluminum and it is mad fast it makes probably about 400 horsepower at 12,000 RPMs and I literally have a street legal version of my first race car it's exact same car except the street car and don't look like no race car but it has that esslinger r motor in it and man this thing is a beast of course with header as well are you going to adjust that pedal movement dude you go down there just the cable you can make it where it's a lot less throw and you can also buy a kit to make it into a racing transmission so to speak with less throw and you can get a little 8-in 3 disc racing clutch for it makes a huge difference in it just can't ride the clutch and you got to double clutch it and you don't shift while you're going you only use the clutch from first to get it rolled after that you don't use the clutch at all the shift with that style clutch that kit I'm talking about. This is back in 2003 when I was 11 when I raced the 2.3 l Ford mustang glass we used mustangs pintos and Toyotas is what was the main car for that class and they hauled the mail and they sounded good too don't sound like no 4 cylinder sounds like a big V8 and then my second motor was actually a 2.3 l will stroked out to a 2.8 L that was a beast as well and the 2.6 L of the Ford rangers you can stroke those out to a 3.0 as well and make a lot of horsepower and they'll bolts right into your mustang the block will bolt right up everything nothing different between the Ford ranger and the Ford mustang motor mounts all the same they'll both right and you can really go get a 2.5 from the junkyard out of a Ford ranger and drop it in and it'll work but no modifications I wish Ford still made this car with this motor same transmission everything carburetor and all but in a newer style body cuz I love this motor in my street car at the exact same one as you I love driving it more than my truck or my regular daily 6 cylinder 2015 camaro RS I love this car man it's a blast to drive. And also if you want a turbo it the turbo the 2.3 l Ford Thunderbirds the whole setup that came in the Ford Thunderbird stock will bolt right up to a stock 2.3 later mustang exact same motor except that just had a little turbo kit put on it from the factory so you can use the whole turbo setup intercooler and all from the older Thunderbirds I had this motor and it'll go right into your mustang as well if you want a turbo it just put some bigger springs in it for the blow off valve to make more Powers what I did and my street 2.3 l is a beast with that esslinger racing motor I even have a stock 2.3 l motor in the garage still on Jack's thing until the fresh build just stock rods and stuff like that just a fresh build that I'm fixing to throw back into my street mustang so I don't ruin the racing motor I have for it and I won't throw the turbo on that and it will hold up as well because that's how the Thunderbird came with the exact same motor and rods and everything they threw a little turbo on it. I'm telling that stock 2.3 l if you rebuilt it stock and you put a better carburetor on it it won't feel slow dude it just putting some better valve springs in it will make it better but a 500 lift cam rebuild the motor which is cheap to build on you can have them rebuilt that machine shop for 1400 bucks and I'm telling you dude you can make the motor scream even without rebuilding it you can make it scream is by throwing a bigger cam in it and a holly 500 CFM two barrel carburetor with a spacer and a big filter on it I promise you it will come to life and put a headers on it too I promise you that thing will come to life and you will be extremely pleased with it and of course the MSD ignition box with a MSD ignition coil like a real racing coil and a real msd racing distributor with some good racing plug wires. You can find racing parts all over internet from day Motorsports and all your oval track racing online supply stores has racing parts and heads for this motor

I hated the fact Americans could make a great V8 but just seemed to not get the 4cyl engine as good at the Japanese, the truth is American car company’s couldn’t even come close to the 4cyl quality that came out of Japan , and I think it’s because Americans felt the 4cyl wasn’t an engine that was going to make big power so they just kinda made a half ass attempt at designing there 4cyl engines and that’s why you got engines like the Vega engine and the early ford 2.3 engines that started out not so good but by the time the SVO mustang with the 2.3 H.O. Intercooled turbocharged 4cyl engines making 200 plus horspower ! That 2.3 4cyl had performance internals that had tighter tolerances and were much stronger and way better due to being higher quality and ford was by that time seriously striving to make there turbo engine as powerful and as strong if not stronger then there 5.0 H.O. Engines and they even went out of there way to make them look better under the hood and until G.M. Started producing the tuned port injection engine G.M. Seem to not really care that there engines , even V8 high output engines really looked like any other crappy cheaply made engine , but ford seemed to realize people wanted to be proud of what was under the hood by the time the SVO had started production .
