Thankyou for this video! Im new to skis and was looking for something that gave me an understanding of these components. You did a fine job of providing that understanding.

If you wanted to change the color of a ride plate, what would be the preferred method on your opinion? Powdercoat, anodizing or ??

Thank you for watching. Ride plates are typically cast aluminum. You could powder coat, or just paint.

Sorry we do not service Jet Boats,, I am not familiar with them at all. I can't imagine any "boat" needing a "scoop" type intake grate.

What would happen if you bolted a small gurney flap to the bottom of the Oem plate?

I have the riva racing grate but some time I get branches sucked up, Should I just go back to the stock one

That's hard for me to say.... An aftermarket scoop will increase pump hook up, and reduce cavitation. BUT as you know you now "may" get things stuck in it. You would need to weigh the pro's and cons, and do what's best for you.

Great video! I am about 165lb and I ride a fully stock reed 550. What is the best plate/grate setup for recreational riding . I'm in Cali so there is a lot of chop when the lake gets pretty busy. Thanks!

Any ride plate / scoop combo will be an upgrade over stock. I suggest riding as many skis/ combos as you can and see what you like, and what works for you.

@@doublem6027 no problem! Also pro watercraft has these hull extensions that push the nose down even further for more grip on the mid/ rear section of the hull. And if you wanna go all out their tubbies are suuuuper good too, makes chasing bouys so much more fun

What happens if you don’t have a intake grate at all?

Depending on what ski / hull you have you will probably draw less water up into the jet pump. Easier cavitation, etc. Also you are more susceptible to possibly getting larger pieces (IE Sticks) into the pump and impeller.

@@angeloski Maybe. Agin, there are MANY variables.... Watercraft type, set up, waterconditions, and more...
