Obviously not. Most city dwellers think that 4WD, antilock brakes, and traction control will overcome anything. Nope. deflate the tires until you have a much greater contact patch; doesn't hurt the tires at VERRRRRRRY slow speeds. Put it in low gear, lowest transfer case range; a speed where you could walk faster than your vehicle; you want it to literally CRAWL. Never touch your brakes, plan where you are going at LEAST 100 feet ahead. It can be done, as I've done it many times, NEVER HAD AN ACCIDENT. Never go anywhere down a hill, even if you have to go miles out of your way to stay on flat land. And if you see other drivers coming at you, they will likely have no idea of how to drive on ice, so kiss your vehicle goodbye.

These are a few tips that have worked for me in the past, just wanted to share. I barely even use the brake when the roads are like that. Three tips (in my experience). 1 - I try to stay off the roads. 2 - I use my shifter. I just downshift. 3 - I plan my route around hills as much as possible. It might take a bit longer, but still gets me where I'm going with less incidents of sliding. I drive a 2020 Toyota Sienna with wheelchair conversion kit. It's front wheel drive only. The kit makes the van a few hundred pounds heavier too, so that helps. Good luck and stay safe kiddies.

Wrong! Those are faulty anti lock breaks your seeing. Pretty much any modern car has anti lock breaks that can pump the brakes at a much better rate than any person can because a person can't immediately determine when the wheels aren't turning, but a computer can.
@spartanzombie2802

@@SmokinOak you clearly don't have allot of experience driving on ice and snow. And even with a good ABS, you can still lock up the brakes if you slam on the brakes and if you hold it with immense pressure. Wether theres a computer or not. Most inexperienced drivers panic and slam on the brakes, the second they start to slide or lose control of the vehicle as well as over correct way too much causing needless accidents. The tip he was giving was to prevent sliding on ice, and to not slam on the brakes. Those are the big causes for sliding on ice and snow
@FordFalcon54
5 ай бұрын
@@SmokinOak I know that's what they say...and maybe I'm just not modern enough but I've never been impressed with the ABS in my cars. I can tap faster than my ABS does it. You have to KNOW what you're doing. ABS is an example of better to have it if you don't have a clue but if you know how to handle your vehicle ABS is a poor substitute. Try it out. My stopping time is much better in ice and snow when I tap my brakes vs. slamming them and letting ABS figure it out. Also don't take me as some pro driver. I'm not. I just grew up in a place with snow and ice. I learned from a young age how to drive in it. When I moved up to WA I got my butt kicked driving in that slushy mashed potato snow. Every year.
