@@999lazer Not to many vid artists in the sport who I like today. Too full of false information and even propaganda. You are one of the very few vid artists who I can enjoy without getting ticked off. To ride that bike. Ohhh--I am jealous. :) How smooth was that "soft" suspension on the bumps anyway? We had 12" of travel before monster jumps for the bumps, and that is why modern riders consider the older set up soft. I bet this bike keeps it's wheels on the ground into a bumpy corner better than a modern bike.

The best looking motocross bike ever made !! Those work's Honda's looked like they were from another planet and dominated 500 GP racing at the time. Thorpe was on fire in 85 and had a great MXDN as well. He showed a great American team a clean pair of heals in Gaildorf Germany that year. USA legends David Bailey and Jeff Ward could get nowhere near him as Thorpe went 1-2-1 on the day. This went some way to silencing some of the American press as he was disrespectfully described as the "world's fastest amateur" by one of their glossy magazines. Thorpe was the gentleman of motocross and let his riding do the talking at the MXDN that year !!
@vetb882
10 күн бұрын
I remember when that magazine called him the world's fastest novice, and I'm not going to mention the editor's name who Thorpe would have left riding with one hand and leaving the bike in third year. But as a card car in journalist and a member of the press I can tell you why they said that, the promote controversy so people would write letters to the editor . They quote one of my other heroes the late great Russian three-time world champion Gennady Moiseev (geNAHdi MOIsayev) "a stinking commie." I FLIPPED, that was the first letter to the Editor I had ever written. The guy was me HERO, HOW DATE you call him something derogatory like that? In the moment, I would've CHOKED that editor, name rhymes with "why sell" but decades later as a journalist coving local regional natal and the occasional Grand Prix event, I understood.... It was nothing personal, just a way to get people taking about the subject and the magazine. Joe D. Why Sell is a good guy. People told me my column in MX East reminded them of his... and why not, he and the late great Rick Seimen, aka Super Hunky, were my writing heroes and is run to the newsstand every month to get the new issues. Max, you DID earn the enormous privilege to ride such a historic and absolutely GORGEOUS works bike. That thing was clearly a decade ahead of anything else. The governing bodies needs to bring back works bikes, even auto racing has what they call the Unlimited Class which is basically a factory free for all where every tech goes. Don't kid yourself though, today's factory bikes are works bikes in disguise... there's a lot of stuff you can't buy on those either. But truthfully after having one of the Factory Connection race techs set my suspension up, my KTM250SX FEEL like a factory❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Bike😅

He had a good day at home. David Bailey said David Thorpe is a very nice man (along with World 500cc Champ), and it was almost heartbreaking to the American team in 1986,--when the O-Show beat him on a 125 for his last Honda factory ride. Every year has it's participants of glory, and they all earned it. I would love to hear a good David Thorpe interview today. I love the perspectives of the men who created the sport. Not so much the generations who have no idea where we came from, or what we did that started their very own lives. I think they believe the FIM owns the sport. I say they need some real free market competition. Lets see what we can build,--again. :)

I was a huge fan of Andre's actually more so than DTs, the US being my fav but with the Belgium era of dominance winding down, Carla, Andre, Eric and Georges Jobe were still fighting hard to bring them back, all great riders and champions! This bike will always be part of that history nothing will ever come like it again MX Man or Machine unfortunately, todays gen no disrespect to this era, just cant comprehend what it was like back then, the fans, the bikes, the racers, they were Titans., even then amongst legends. Keep the history alive 999, you are doing great work, personally I am stoked you got to do what all of us could only dream of, so if its anyone of us mortals that loved this era and those bikes got to swing a leg on one and have a ride on it for yourself and the rest of us, I am glad it was you, you have been doing more for the 2stroke community than anyone so for me its deserved, worthy skill wise it doesn't matter, worthy in heart mate and ya brought a smile to the rest of us for that. That is a more intelligent statement than many people realize IMO. It is a monument of free enterprise, before the FIM and EPA told the industry what to make and buy. It is a monument of a time, of what is possible when we are free to discover what is possible. But, when plastic injected molded machines are used (fenders, side panels, radiator shrouds), and CNC machining is used for metal one off parts,--I would like people to define what "hand made" means. :)

How to start a DRY & PUT AWAY PROPERLY 2ST M/C: 1. Fit with fuel, turn on tap, lay the bike down on the left side, open throttle fully, wait & see fuel coming out of the overflow lines, stand bike back up, place back on stand, pull up the enrichment knob, open throttle & push start lever thru twice, close throttle & find & pass TDC, return start lever to the top & apply the amount of downward force that you think it would take to stomp your foot thru to China, be ready to slightly open the throttle as it comes to life on ONE KICK, EVERYTIME!! The key thing is to WET THE BLOCK with fuel to make the rings seal & force the fuel to get up to the combustion area, so by FLOODING IT at the start that saves 3-4 kicks that it normally takes to do the same thing. Just a lil ditty to save the bottom of your foot & make you look cool when it works ONE KICK, EVERYTIME!! P.S. I do believe that the very same thing happens when you push down the TICKLER KNOB on a BING VERGASSER!

Great video! A bigger paddock or proper track would have been more befitting! Like testing an F1 car in a supermarket carpark 😂

I think you are worthy and I base that soley on the fact you intend to take that RM and use it instead of letting it suffer lifelong uselessness for a few quid. You get it. That makes you worthy.

That beast spins up like a 125 on low revs it didn't have the low bark of the equivalent cr is that being so much better technology etc it's just so crisp perhaps alot better balancing and internal materials another banger of a vid max I only just saw the episode u starting your rm last night
