Hello from Germany, I watched your great video today and I'm thrilled. Because it immediately give me a tip about what I would do when I was in Sapporo for four weeks next year for work. I will definitely take this train ride and go to Cape Soya . Thanks for this video and kind regards from the German Alps .

Great video, Kuga-san! A part of Japan not usually seen, and I appreciate the geographical references - I knew that the tip of Hokkaido was just across from Sakhalin Island, but didn’t know it was *that* close. Beautiful backcountry, until you get near the sea - then it’s rather forbidding, even ominous. Reminds me of the Aleutian Islands off of Alaska. The deer are worth the two minutes behind schedule ❤️😁!

Huh, the 45th parallel is a bit south of where I live...I have to drive 40 minutes. But I am a member of the 45-90 club thanks to visiting a farm field in rural Wisconsin USA. Deer usually don't move much in heavy snow, they prefer to hole up and take a nap. Thanks for taking us on your travels!

No, it takes 5 hours + alpha. The distance from Sapporo to Wakkanai is about 400km. From Sapporo Station to Asahikawa Station, you can run fast on the high-speed line, but after Asahikawa Station, the speed will drop due to track conditions with some reasons, which curves, up-down, single railroad track, a few time of maintenance, and many stopping of stations.

Does anyone know what the cockpit of those trains looks like? I'm having trouble picturing how the driver fits above that corridor.
@Daneelro
2 жыл бұрын
The corridor goes around the elevated cabin. The cabin is elevated to give drivers a better view and more survivability in case of collisions with large animals. IIRC on some older "hump-nosed" trains in Japan, the bottom of the driver's cabin could be folded up into the corridor walls when the cross-passage was opened.
@WanJae42
2 жыл бұрын
It's deceptive. It looks like the driver is centered over the pass-through corridor, but he's actually off mostly to one side (the left). Once you're up there (door on the left side of the corridor), the bottom of the seat is just a little higher than the top of the passage, and you can reach the instrument panels and breaker panels that spread off to your right. If you Google some high resolution photos, you can see the driver's position to the side.
@Daneelro
2 жыл бұрын
@@WanJae42 The driver is off to the left side, but still in front of the left side of the front door. But the corridor to the front door goes on the right side and turns to the centre only at the front (with an angled left side), so the driver's desk extends above the corridor end (the door opening area) while his seat is behind the angled left side of the corridor end.
