We saw Mark when he had about 50 miles to go, climbing out of Helmsdale on his way back south to Inverness. Brilliant achievement !

based on what I've seen of Hank, I think it'd be amazing to have him on your support team, and I don't care what it is your doing. You could be in line at a cafeteria and no matter how terrible the food was you'd feel like you won with Hank cheering you on as you tried to get through it

On the text at the start, it's stated that Mark set the inaugural record at 32 hours. It was actually just under 38 hours. James McCallum brought it down to 32 hours 23 min in 2016. That stayed until Josh Quigley then took another hour out of it in 2020 (31 hours 19 mins), and then Robbie Mitchell then smashed that last year down to 29 hours and 5 minutes. A remarkable set of achievements by all concerned over the years, chapeau !

We did this in 5 days and were f@%ked. This video really doesn't highlight how tough some of the climbs are. Mark makes it look easy!

Having taken on the NC500, I know how tough it really is. I was truly drawn to tears watching this production and all I can say is "Chapeaux" and a massive "Well done" to Mark Beaumont for his efforts.

Cross Canada. Did that in my teens and it took 30 days - it would be amazing to see Mark do this. Epic, amazing wild country for much of the way. Like Scotland, long long days in the summer. Agree with the comment that your films are getting better and better - absolutely engaging.

I've cycled the nc500. The fact he did this in just over 1 day is absolutely incredible. I cannot even imagine how difficult this must've been. What an absolute legend.

@@toosas I trained for 9 months having never ridden a road bike before. I'm quite lucky where I am in Scotland that a 15 mile route was around 1.5k of climbing so that was my training for a long time. I upped the distances as I rode more. Then I rode around the Isle of Dunoon as a typical nc500 day for us which was an eye opener for me in terms of time in the saddle and nutrition. Our team completed it over 7 days for charity.

to average just around 30 kph on elapsed time for 28 hours 35 minutes - including all his breaks and everything is just mind blowing. This is a super human effort!! Congrats Mark! And great job GCN for capturing it in such an entertaining way. I know KZitem calls for 30 minute or less clips to keep viewers engaged - it would be cool to see a bigger production that showed more of the details both on the bike, and behind the scenes of this record breaking attempt.

Wonderful! What a man! I think I've watched all of Mark's epic challenges and find them so inspiring. I've ridden on and off for 40 plus years and at 62, recovering from blood cancer (Chronic Lymphocytic Luekemia), I'm doing the 100 mile route of Ride London next May in aid of Blood Cancer. Nothing compared to Mark's typical mileage but I'll be re-watching a few of these to put wind in my sails!

i recently did a solo 240km around Jeju island KR, and it took me 16hrs elapsed time. Headwinds on coatal roads was hell. Mark is absolute beast doing 500miles in 29hrs 😮💪

I just watched the full film on GCN and I'd like to make a suggestion that GCN support the last man ( Robbie Mitchell) in the same way to see if he can get the record back? Nopinz, wind tunnel you name it.... because if anyone wants that record back, he does. That would make a great film too

It's a superhuman effort. Incredible work. I've cycled the short B869 Stoer/Drumbeg section of the route, it's only 20 miles or so but has some brutal hills/ramps on it. Ardbhair Brae coming in at 27% or thereabouts is particularly brutal. To think that Mark would have been hitting these sections late-ish on in the 1st day makes the times he recorded on those sections even more impressive.

Interesting to watch - you can see that Mark is coming from unsupported bike packing, a lot of stuff on the support side still being figured out. Like the 10 minute breaks in the schedule - I think most ultra-endurance supported racers would consider that an extraordinarily long break, and Mark did not end up taking them.

Definitely a force 8 on the Beaumont scale. Those seas are roiling! Him, the support team, and the GCN production team. Maybe the Pacific Coast trail for the next challenge. And now it's time for something entirely different! That has the reputation as being really tough!

Am I the only one watching his toe off and hip rock in the early hours, then as the fatigue sets in the beautiful alternating sinusoidal curve Mark's spine draws and thinking either the cranks are too long or his seat has been set too high? 😳
