Built, run and managed by volunteers, the Swindon and Cricklade railway is a reconstruction of a standard gauge railway, that takes you right through the heart of Wiltshire countryside.
You can either park at Mouldon hill country park, to get the train at Taw Valley Halt or at the visitor centre at Blunsden.
Currently, the furthest north the line goes to, is Hayes Knoll and it is here where extensive restoration work continues, with work on the historic AC Railbus.
The line currently takes you on a 4 and a half mile round trip, but this is a journey that will continue to grow.
The brilliant volunteers continue to work through their ‘Return to Cricklade’ plans, as the line expands, getting ever closer to joining the town.
We had a lovely time riding the steam locomotive 6695 and with plenty of events and occasions to come back for, it’ll be great to revisit, over the years.
