Looks the first ride went good. I am too old to be riding colts now but I used to start quite a few. My advice to you is do as much as you can on the ground. I used to saddle them with old tires before I rode them. I like to put a snaffle bit in their mouth and drive them. All of these things can make the first few rides better. No reason to be in hurry for the first ride take your time and cover as many bases as you can. I wished I was young and ambitious like you just don't get hurt that takes the fun out of it. Where are you located? I live in Price UT that looks like my kind of country.

Hey 10CowRanch, l love your comment. I am breaking/training my Standardbred he is four. Done heaps of ground work, have sat on him a few times, a little walking. My difficulty is that he argues with his head and does not like being steered, snaffle is used, rope halter too. Have been long reining and lunging. His teeth are still coming through being five in June his tush teeth are coming through right now, he nips and has been very mouthy. Thinking of giving him a month off, as he is still very loose limbed and not processing too great. Any advice l would be grateful.
