I just saw these guys in Tampa after listening to them for longer than I can even remember. They were absolutely awesome, as good as I could have ever imagined. I was right up front and was able to watch the pedal dance, and even that was as impressive as the rest of the performance. So good.

Awesome. Saw Russian Circles at the Kesselhaus in Berlin back in 2016 and sonically it was probably the best sounding show I've been to, sounded absolutely pristine (so credit to the venue for that too!). this is a great song/great riff, maybe ill try to learn it sometime if I every figure out how to tap lol

took me 3 days but finally was able to play the riff somewhat decent a few times in a row. Now it's just a matter of pratice! So glad riff rundown exist! Like he says, the riff isnt actaully as hard as it looks. x0,5 speed on yt does miracles

Is this c# standard?
@innocentoctave
5 жыл бұрын
No. He says it's C# A D G A C#. C# standard would be C# F# B E G# C#. In any case, it's easier to understand if you call the C# Db. Then if he's right about the other strings, it's just DADGAD with the two outside Ds lowered half a step to Db. An unusual tuning: no idea what to call it (double half-drop DADGAD?). (In fact, I see Songsterr tabs it out in straight DADGAD, which alters some of the fingerings.) Monstrous riff, anyways. In any case, it looks as though the first note he fingers on the bottom string, which I hear as the root of the chord to which he keeps returning, so probably the tonal centre, is fret 5 = Gb.
@azngoku666
5 жыл бұрын
@@innocentoctave yeah that's all right... so the question is whether this is "better" than just DADGAD down half a step like is it more ergonomic for fretting chords, having some of the fingers offset by 1 fret? i've been playing in C#G#C#F#G#C# and other dropped variants for ages and never tried the actual russian circles tuning :/
@innocentoctave
5 жыл бұрын
@@azngoku666 I think you're right. I can't see any reason for dropping the top string to C#/Db other than to avoid an awkward fingering - in fact I think you can see him do this on the high string pair. You'ld have to compare his fingering with the Songsterr version. It's possible that he started with DADGAD, a very well known tuning, and then adjusted for purely practical reasons, coming up with something that looks more complicated than it is. Once you've dropped the top string, it makes sense to drop the bottom string as well to bring the outside octaves back in line.
