Very coo and informativel, I have the same setup with the break replacing the last module of Optima 60 and accidentally chose the better length with one module less just to stay shorter, and it works like a charm. It surprised me that shorter actually performs better, the explanation makes perfect sense though! 😮

I have an area 419 Maverick, and in the competition configuration yes the brake does help, but that was designed from the ground up to optimize the gas flow. So I think it depends on the baffle, orientation and engineering It looks like you’re definitely getting some benefit from the ported end caps
@ChasetheWildNZ
6 ай бұрын
Yes the brake end caps make a huge difference for recoil. Not so much for noise!
@lukeclement1310
6 ай бұрын
@@ChasetheWildNZ I’ve experienced the same with my Maverick the more recoil reduction the louder it is. There’s a 5.5 in a 6.5 configuration 5.5 reduces the most recoil but it’s obvious the loudest. At a rifle match that’s kind of a moot point because not everyone is running a suppressor in the US. You have wear pro anyway. Hunting different story the quieter or the better. Cool video keep it up

So, the suppressor with the brake cap is quieter than the suppressor with no brake?
@ChasetheWildNZ
6 ай бұрын
No, the other way round.. I tried to explain that at end of the video. The normal style ones slow gas to quieten the shot. This reduces the energy going forward and so reduces recoil also. However if you add a brake endcap the faster and noiser the gas coming out is better for the brake o work and reduce recoil more. That's why you see the shorter ones that aren't as good for noise are slightly better for recoil when brake is added. Hope that makes sense

You think you will use the brake on the end for your hunting rifle?
@ChasetheWildNZ
3 ай бұрын
@camstocky2019 yes I think the sweet spot is using it on the end of an already very good sound suppressor (most ones that are 6" forward) if you add one to the shorter ones you can get a little bit of a ringing in the ears which isn't ideal!!!

Studies have shown adding weight to the front end improves accuracy. I think it was a 100 grams. Tamed barrel whip and muzzle flip.

Yes indeed. Similar to how a tuner works.. anything that changes the weight or the stiffness of the barrel harmonics can be used to tune a load

Cool Video mate but dont think you should be adding weight I think it "could" be effecting the results. If you remove baffles and the rifle is lighter then thats the real world situation. Plus lifting the extra weight is harder than shifting it backwards when its one the sled. Great video though cheers
@ChasetheWildNZ
6 ай бұрын
I didn't add weight to the string. I added the weight difference to the sled so that the recoil had to always move the same weight. But yes I agree with the real world situation. However I wanted to show people the affects of the suppressor design/ length/ end cap without letting weight change blurr the results even if it's very slight.

Without the brake and full length they are some of the best you can buy for sound reduction. They are tested properly by independent testing.

I own and run 22 suppressors. I use them on everything from 17m2 to 450 Bushmaster. Semi auto handgun and rifle, bolt action, handgun and rifle, single shot handgun and rifle. Rimfire short action, long action and magnum. Range, hunting, defense use. I use them in four states in the US and in South Africa. The Atec is the least effective suppressor I have ever run. “Independent Testing”… no doubt. Haha
@ChasetheWildNZ
6 ай бұрын
@jrca1406 I don't sell them or anything but that genuinely surprises me. They are tested to the milspec standard that Is the bench mark for all the suppressor testing. If you are using them at 150mm forward then on a 308 you should be getting 30+ Db reduction with is as good as it gets. The big MH2 (65mm thick) can do 38db. Here in NZ we have apt of 4" forward options and when tested by a.hunting magazine here most brands fell between 17db and 24db. Some of the 6" forward ones managed 30db
