That's called a Falsetto! : ) You can hear similar techniques in songs by the Bee Gees (A good example of this if you haven't heard of that band before is "Stayin' Alive", but a good chunk of their songs use this technique). They're pretty common in disco records from the 70s in the U.S., although I'm not sure how common in Japan.

I heard this song so many times that you'd think I'd be sick of it by now, but nope, not even close. I don't know the lyrics, but I sing it in the shower, or while I'm driving my car, or doing the dishes, etc. It's just such a catchy beat and she sings it so well I have to imagine that if they played this regularly on the radio here, everybody would know it by heart.

Panaesthesia, or the mixing of sensations. It's technically the perception of a stimulus thru another sense, like tasting a color. I, too, get certain associations locked into songs, ones that aren't obviously connected. Kinda cool and part of the fun, isn't it?

If you like bass like that, you should check out "Parliament". Since the Japanese used a lot of different music influences and mixed it all together, I can imagine that the bass hails from funk. Parliament is more chill though.
