I agree with you Ron, I’ve had this machine for several years and very satisfied with it. Here’s a bonus; any wood shop can have a disc sander for about 30 bucks. Go to your local Woodcraft or Rockler and purchase a 10 inch steel disc, with sanding pads, that simply mounts on your tablesaw arbor. Voilà, Instant sanding disc machine! One last thing, probably worth mentioning, that screw knob on your Ridgid sander is reverse thread.😬

I got mine from Home Depot 3 months ago. Love it! If it's bought from HD send in warranty and it has Lifetime guarantee as with all Ridgid tools bought at HD. Thanks for the tip for storing the stop flange! I'm on it this weekend....lol

I have this sander and love it as well. When I’m not using the stop I just loosen the knob and turn it to the back and retighten the knob so it’s secure. It sticks out the back but it is out of the way and stable. When I’m done I just put it right back in it’s using position.

I bought the same sander a couple of months ago after noticing that the Rigid sander is in the background on most of the woodworking channels that I watch. Then like you did more research on it before buying like you did.

Hi Ron, you glue a small rare earth magnet onto the stop bracket so it would sore on the back without needed to fixit with the screw. Much less fiddly. I use this technique to keep the key for my pillar drill Chuck on the column so it's always easy to find. Good revue though. Mike

After I bought one of these (used), I rarely ever use my perfectly good 40 year old Craftsman Disk & Belt sander anymore. The only times I found the Disk sander capability particularly useful was for accurately sanding angled edges, which is much easier using the Rigid sander. I prefer using a miter gauge in the slot much more than the supplied bracket. The slot is also handy for purpose made sanding jigs. One additional feature that would be handy would be speed adjustment.

Good Job Ron! I’ve multiple units of theses Rigid sanders. They been great! (Outside of the shop vac, I think it’s the only other Rigid tool I own.) It’s either Milwaukee or festool for me.....well, I do own some DeWalt stuff too. Thanks again!

This company should send you some sanding belts or something 'cos you sold me. Oh yeah, for any other Aussies watching this I believe this exact machine in 240V is sold under the branding of Triton if I'm not mistaken. Cheers.

The key for different battery systems is battery adapters. I’m mostly on the Makita battery platform but I have adapters for DeWalt and Milwaukee tools. The adapters don’t work on everything in particular batteries that fit in a cavity like a light or something like that you can run into issues but for the most part using drills, sanders and jigsaw’s they work great.

I like mine too--but you do have to be careful about kickback--I've actually has minor injuries more with this sander (when first getting used to it, I admit) than any other power tool I own! It's got some kick!

Ron, do you find the miter slot helpful? I'm torn between this Ridgid belt/spindle sander and the Grizzly version which-I've been told-all come from the same factory (along with the Wen, Bauer and Triton versions). The Grizzly et al. versions are 25% smaller and lighter than the Ridgid (32 lbs vs 40 lbs., but they lack a miter slot).

From my research, the Ridgid sanders that were orginally made years ago were the best, and apparently the ones made in the last few years are of cheaper quality and don't last too long.

Thx for the review. I’m looking to purchase the same tool for use in a mobile flip top bench with my Dewalt planer mounted to the flip side. My question is ‘do you believe all the attachments for the sander will stay in place if the adjustable table is closed when the machine is literally turned upside down’? Thx
@DKWalser

I have my Rigid oscillating bench sander mounted on a flip cart. With the table in the closed position, the various spindles will stay put. The belt sander, if stored, or the spindle plate, if stored, will not stay in place. My flip cart has a drawer on the bottom. I keep those things in the drawer.

The top view of the cradle in the video looks like you added more depth for the 90° vac elbow. If so, do you know how much extra you added? Also where did you purchase that elbow? Thanks for all of your videos! They are very inspiring.

The elbow is a standard shop vac 90, I have a bunch of them as they fit everything including my two table saws, router fence, etc.. I buy the shop vac 90 brushes and remove the brush.

Ron, could you list your plans necessary to set up everything you have in this video. I have the exact same sander, saw, and miter saw and would love to make this layout. A list would make my purchase of the various plans much easier. Thank you.

The best thing is to go to his website. Look for Smart Station, Smart Bench, and Smart Cradle. He also has the router table/fence, Smart Cross Cut and many other options. Anything with ‘Smart’ is his new system.

Over the last couple of years, several clones of the Rigid oscillating belt sander have been released. Wen, Grizzly, and Harbor Freight, all have one. However, their tables are all smaller than Rigid's. I prefer Rigid's smaller table because it gives more support when edge sanding the end of a cabinet door.

Here is a follow up after a call to Home Depot. This item is not in in their current offering..neither the stock number nor the Model number is in their system They said it is not on back order status. They said it is not currently available with the possible reason that it will be reintroduced either with modifications or another manufacturing source.. I considered their response as speculation. I will call Ridgid tomorrow to see what they have to say.

Well, God must have taken notice, because when I went to buy shelf brackets today, whattaya know? There was one -- JUST ONE -- on the shelf... The only reason I turned down that aisle was because I was thinking that MAYBE the tool dept. manager might be willing to sell me his "floor demo" if only I begged just right... And there, where previously there was a big, empty gap under the shelf, was a single, solitary, unopened, new-in-box, combo sander! So, I'm on my way home with that box, and there once again is a dark, empty space, under the store shelf... 😀
