So just a follow up question: What is, if there even is any, the difference between 'Hoarfrost' and 'regular frost'? I am not a native speaker and I was challenged by being asked what a certain word would mean in english. I came up with the word 'frost' but they said I was wrong since they looked it up and came up with 'hoarfrost'. So is there a difference between those two or are they the same thing?

super duper late on this but I can try to answer you. (not a meteorologist or anything) hoarfrost comes from water vapor freezing onto trees and other surfaces. it covers everything and makes the world look like a real life snow globe. I see it maybe twice a year if I'm lucky. It occurs during the winter. frost is much more common. It happens during spring and fall. It is when morning dew freezes over. It only happens when it is warm enough the previous day for moisture to condense and form dew, then gets cold enough for it to freeze before sunrise. It turns the grass white or sometimes a blueish color, and makes it crunchy underfoot. It can also kill plants that either haven't been harvested yet in the fall, or which have started to grow already in the spring.
