Fascinating! If JP was watching me at a match I would probably miss. Excellent footage and yes JP we like your face too. Merry Christmas everyone!

Great explanation of traditional spin priming process and the potential issues. May be worth researching Eley Prime that Lapua are licenced to use as are Aquila. Different process for safety and also 100% optically automated primer presence check. Roughly double the priming compound. Just open a case of Eley and fire it. Do the same with something like CCi and just hear the difference. You do need a decent strike on an Eley case due to metallurgy. Lapua requires the same strike force and penetration as a CCi case. But the lack of primer in the rim does not exist with Eley Prime. Great video. 👍

At my local club. We do 3gun matches with 22. Mini rifle, 22 pistol and shotgun. For two reasons, cost & range distance is limited.

Is it safe to dry-fire a rim fire?

Rimfire firearms, unlike centerfire firearms, have the firing pin strike the edge or rim of the cartridge to ignite the primer. When there's no cartridge present, the firing pin strikes against the edge of the chamber, which can cause it to slam against the metal, potentially leading to damage over time. However, the extent of damage can vary depending on the firearm and the frequency of dry-firing. While occasional dry-firing may not immediately damage the firearm, repeated dry-firing, especially over time, can lead to wear and potentially cause problems with the firing pin or other internal components. To avoid any potential damage, it's generally advisable to use snap caps or dummy rounds specifically designed for dry-firing. These devices mimic the size and weight of real cartridges but do not contain any primer or gunpowder. They provide a cushion for the firing pin to strike against, reducing the risk of damage to the firearm. Using snap caps or dummy rounds is a safer alternative for practicing trigger control or dry-firing exercises with rimfire firearms.

Sounds like Remington thunderbolt wasn’t aware of this process or manufacturing technique bc I always got a load of duds every box. It’s why I won’t buy anything to this day with the name Remington on it.
