I'd like to point out with using the planning function as a ruler, you don't actually have to lay down the plans and delete them, you can just right click to cancel them, before you release the left mouse button to lay them down. Right clicking can cancel most things if you haven't released the left mouse button yet.

Keep the tutorials coming. I like to have a 15x15 store room the trade beacon covers all but the corners and you put your batteries there. I would also flip your freezer to you hospital room to cut the walk time down. Then to the left of that a room with the butcher table and stove and left again your dinning room.

one more thing, never leave all bateries conected to the grid at the same time. Use power switches to leave only one battery charging and providing power at a time. If you leave them conected to the grid all at once, they may explode all at once in a Random event and it's a lot of energy, meaning a bigger trouble. If only one is conected to the grid, only one explodes, less energy is released, less damage is done, less energy is wasted. I lost like three colonists in a row once in a game because of this, the batteries were all inside a small room and they caught on fire, the temperature reached almost 500 Celsius so the colonists died because of the overheating trying to put out the fire. If I'm not mistaken, I was using Wood Walls, so it only made things worse. But even if you have stone walls and so on, it's still dangerous.

Place a door between the crafting room and the stockpile, preferrably in the bottom right corner of the crafting room. That way your colonists don't have to walk all the way out, and then walk back into the stockpile which is just next door. Also, once you've researched autodoors, try to avoid placing autodoors at the entrances to the base, as in case of a power outage like a solar flare, you wont have colonists trapped outside if there are any. I find it is much more useful to place autodoors to stockpile areas which keep medicine, and also doors to the hospital area so its quicker to treat patients. On the topic of treating patients, its handy to have your best doctor's bedroom built right beside the hospital room because its self explanatory

Most of it is just luck. Frag grenades have done a good job at incapacitating people I've found without like, blowing off their arms and legs. For instance, in one of my recent playthroughs one of my characters shot a pirate until he was downed and I was thinking about recruiting him, but both an arm AND a leg got shot off...I'm not dealing with that, so he had to die. Some folks have said melee weapons that are small stabbing weapons like knives and blunt weapons like clubs seemed to work well also, but that puts your colonists in some danger for sure.

People/creature will get incapacitating if they only have a certain amount of hp left, and the amount is very close to 0, so the less damage on hit the weapon has, the higher chance you have. So if you want to capture a pirate, call a brawler to do the job, to lesser the risk I would recommend to arm the brawler with a shiv knife or a club.

If a batteri blows up its 1 tile around it? isent it kinda bad to put them together? just asking.
@iwonalenik2547
7 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is bad to put them together, I always keep them in a separate room (or rooms) in groups of 3-4, divided by walls and with a switch for each group. This way if a battery breaks (or goes "zzzt..."), it only affects one battery and not the whole group. I can also use the switch to disconnect the fully charged batteries from the network in case of an event where you get ALL your stored energy in the network discharged instantly because of a short circuit (yep, that happens as well). The batteries which were not connected stay loaded and can serve as an emergency electricity source then.

Why so many coolers and heaters? If you just have ONE cooler and ONE heater, in a hallway linking all the rooms, then you just install a vent between the hallway and each room. Simple, all rooms will have the same temperature as the hallway and your power use is HEAPS less!! (of course you'll need a separate cooler for your freezer)

Double your freezer walls to prevent the cold air from "seeping" through your walls. Also, building a freezer in the mountain will prevent the cold air from leaving through the roof. When cooking, go under the "details" tab and click "drop item" rather than "take to best stockpile" Have the hauler haul the food so the cook wont leave the station. Don't tame boomrats. They will eventually explode in your base injuring things or even killing people. Dont do drugs. Just sell them. Its more profitable. Space out your batteries. Having them that close, or even on the same network could be catastrophic during surges and storms. Dont recruit 83 year old women with dementia. Theyre worthless.

Something that I always do is to use a wood burning generator to power my freezers' coolers only. You don't have to worry about a drop in power output and eclipses / lack of wind / short circuits all do not affect the freezers. Then, the only things that stop your freezers are solar flares and generator breakdown. Both fairly uncommon.
@GrayStillPlays
8 жыл бұрын
That's definitely something you could do, the only reason I'm not a huge fan of the fuel generators is I've ended up doing playthroughs on two maps with no wood. Well, one with no wood (ice sheet) and one with so little wood it couldn't fuel a generator (desert). I typically make a B-line for Geothermal generators, because they produce a massive amount of energy and it's a fairly uninterruptible source of power.. Now on my boreal forest biome playthrough, the fuel burning generator would definitely be an option.

You base is very inefficient... simply because of the layout. You need to have the cooking station feezer and also dining room near each other and you need also to make seperate storages for fast crafting and fast equipping. Also you forgot a place for the animals. But the worst thing is that you can't build any more bedroom without destroying anything. You need to make a little bit of space for them when you get a new colonist. Also prison cells need to be about in the center of your base so they can't escape or been freed...
@foremanhaste5464

While inside, the equipment racks dont do anything other then make you feel fancy and waste resources. Simple having a room over an item stops deterioration (not to be confused with rot.) Equipment racks are for having a small area outside unroofed where you can store items that need to be at particular spots and handy, mortars shells for instance that need to be close to the mortar that needs to be outside.

One thing I'd change is make sure the stove and butcher table are near the refrigerated room, idealy with a corridor between them so that the Kitchen doesn't get Frozen and the refrigerated room doesn't get warm. Because people spend a lot of time going from their crafting spots to the stockpile. So the same goes for other Crafted stuff, like Stone blocks, craft them near the place where the final product Will be stored. This way the colonists Will be way more productive and will waste less time doing things.

How did you put down the chunks in the defense hallway, did you designate as a waste area or is there a way to put them down manually? Batteries always working at 50% efficiency. What does it mean and is there any way to increase this efficiency?
@kaleidoscope3234
8 жыл бұрын
Its mean that it will only stored half of the amount of energy transfer to them, the other half will gone to waste, but the output always provide full amount of energy to the entire grid until the batteries depleted. The 50% efficiency is a good thing cause its slow down the charging rate of the battery, if all the batteries you have are full, they will discharge all the energy and cause an explosion on any random location on the grid, and cause fire. Thats why for safety of your colonists, unless you can ensure to secure your energy reserve and nothing will ever happen, its best to build power conduits inside walls or away from the main traffic within the colony.
