*Just to clarify and I haven't emphasized in the video - with the Ring Alarm Pro you will also need to replace your existing router. Ring recommends it to be the main router and not setup as an extender and it's features like the local recording and the backup internet will only work if it is setup as the main router. So, if you already have a good Wifi and network setup, the Alarm Pro will not be a good option for you and the regular Ring Alarm will.*

Thanks so much for doing this. I have a couple of questions. First, assuming Ring is continuing to use AT&T for cellular service, placement of the base is critical for coverage for much of the country (me, too). My best spot for my existing Alarm base is not near my modem and it's totally impractical to run an ethernet cable across the house for that. I already have an Eero mesh system (the dual band version with ethernet ports, not the tri-band) and am wondering if I could "waste" one of my Eeros by moving it close enough to the base to connect them by ethernet cable? Of course I'd end up with two networks, one for Ring stuff and another for everything else as it is now? I hope this question makes sense. I'm trying to optimize my cellular/backup connection without rewiring my house. Surely Ring/Amazon will figure out a way to just use the Eero as another device in the mesh and not force it to be in a sub-optimal location in the house for cell coverage.

This looks like another good system, but, I don't know why Ring and now Arlo with their new security system, insist on using the "Mattell" toy-ish looking keypads. A security system is supposed to denote concrete professionalism but for some reason these great systems are interfaced by big plastic pads with oversized keys. If they have to keep these as a default fine, but I wish they would make alternate keypads available that are slimmer and have smaller "digit"-style keys, and can be mounted flat to the wall (not simply one of these Mattell toy keypads stuck to the wall). The one SimpliSafe uses most matches what I'm thinking of.

It works, but it is cumbersome. Ive been using that alternative after I switched from Frontpoint (excellent alarm system/monitoring but $50 a month) since Ring did not have a glass break sensor (until recently). What I discovered is that 1, Alexa Guard only detects glass breaking sounds (or people sounds) when Ring is set to Away mode, so at night when we are at home sleeping with Home mode on it would not detect a glass break. This is detrimental since I cannot arm the alarm to Away mode because that will also arm the “people sounds” in the Alexa guard and it is so sensitive that it will be triggered by even any of us snoring, and that results in an annoying alarm sound from the Echos throughout the house. 2., when Alexa guard detects glass breaking sounds, it does NOT trigger an alarm event on Ring, but rather sends you a push notification through the Alexa app for you to listen to it and determine if it is a glass breaking sound. Still then, if it is, you have to manually set off your Ring alarm so on top of the fact that it is delayed by the time you actually get to hear the sound, it still won’t integrate and automatically set the alarm off once you confirm the sound…by then burglars have already ransacked your place and left!

Seems kinda lame you have to have the protect pro plan to save to the local SD card. Also, since you already have an alarm you could have just brought the base and swapped it out. If you're grandfathered on the $10/month plan, might be worth it to keep that rather than upgrading to $20/month plan as the newer base adds a router but you already have one. There isn't really much reason to upgrade to this for most people, though the optional backup UPS is nice so the alarm doesn't go into low power mode during an outage. Of course the UPS only works with the Pro version (though you can just buy any UPS for the older alarm if you want). You can still get monitoring with the old alarm which is still on sale but you have to pay the $20 a month now if you are not grandfathered, it is not self monitoring option only on that model.

The base only is 250 bucks so I just bought the kit for 300 and I do need extra sensors. Also, I upgraded because of this channel and if I haven't, then there is no video and no conversation like what we are having now :) I agree with you that there is really no reason to upgrade if you already have the Ring alarm.

I DON'T have a ring security system but I DO have ring security cameras WITH ring Plus subscription for 100/yr...will I qualify to be grandfathered in with my 100/yr professional monitoring that I already currently have if I get the security alarm pro system?

@LifeHackster or anyone. Any updates on this? My ISP uses a Eero to connect to the Fiber ONT. My Nighthawk is then plugged into the Eero. From there, connected to my unmanaged switch. I dont see the Eero and Nighthawk causing issues ane no double NAT that i can see either. Dont need to update per se but i was thinking with the Eeeo on board, i can have my cameras use that and when power and such go out, ill still have access to the cameras (I dochave a backup generator so a good amount of the wired cameras will have power). Another question is how much data has the system and cameras used?

Ring is suggesting that you replace your main router with this. But, there were people that just added this but made it a separate network and they said it was working ok. I haven't tested this though.

Your videos have been very helpful, many thanks. I'm still a little confused as to what version of Ring security would be best for me. I am using a Google mesh wifi system which works very well. If I got the Ring Pro would that mean I should discontinue the Google mesh? Or could I just use a Ring 2nd gen system and hook it in with the Google Mesh 🤔. Also if I went with the Ring 2nd gen system could I still subscribe toe the yearly Ring monitoring program? Thanks for your help. 😀

Mine says we have the Plus that is $100/year and we have the 24/7 monitoring and the cellular backup. Are we grandfathered in or is it changing? At $20 a month i can switch to a big company if this is the case.

I understand that with the Ring system, one can use the existing hard wired window and door sensors from a previous security system, is this still possible with this new Ring Pro and do you have a video showing how this is done?

@LifeHackster: How fast does it switch over to Cellular after unplugging the coax or fiber optic cable from the modem (not unplugging the ethernent cable from the base station). in the regular base station, the switching will not happen unless an alarm is triggered. Note this is different from unplugging the ethernet from the base station because the station will not see the ethernet port losing low voltage power (i.e. it will still think it is online). instead, it would need to rely on pinging the ring server to see if it is still online, and that only happens when an alarm is triggered. this scenario is more realistic since burglars can cut your internet cable outside, leaving your modem and router running. I would appreciate it if you can update us on this. I can clarify more if what i just said is confusing. Thank you!

Do you need to have the ring alarm pro base as your primary eero 6 pro? In other words, do I have to connect it to my spectrum modem as my wifi router and not as another "extender" ? the reason im asking is because I'm currently using the eero 6 pro E (support faster internet, the regular 6 pro only goes up to 1mbps speed i believe )connected to my Spectrum modem. I also have ethernet ports on the wall around the house, so if I use it as an extender, it would be hardwired to the network. help! UPDATE, didnt see your pineed comment, it answers my question, hgopefully they dont come out with an upgrade soon as a 6 pro e....
