This is really awesome and thanks for sharing. Is there any way to modify the Hubitat virtua device to allow for three states to align with the away, home and disarmed states of the Ring alarm? It would be nice to have different automations for home and away armed modes.

You really don’t need Hubitat to do this rule. I’m using Ring door sensors to trigger lights in my house, Also when ring is set to home, I can have it lock or unlock door using August lock. I love Hubitat but you can easily get this done without making it complicated

dependent on the Lock, mine only arms the system if I lock the door with my access code from the outside, and disarms when I unlock with my code.

At this late stage, it's kind of a joke that Amazon (who owns Ring) permits less integration with the Alexa app than, say, IFTTT (which is owned by Google, their main competitor!).

I just found your channel because I am thinking about getting Hubitat for my home. Lots of good information here. I don't have automatic locks yet, but I think I could modify this procedure to set Alexa to Guard mode when the RIng security system is turned on.

Love the videos. Could you make a video on how to make conditions.with presence. If A is home, B leaves, then c needs to stay on Thanks!

Great video and I certainly learned a lot. I was able to successfully modify your routine to get status updates into Hubitat from a Ring Alarm contact sensor. I was forced to use "Virtual Switch" as the Virtual Device type in Hubitat, however, not "Virtual Contact Sensor" or "Ring Alarm Contact Sensor". I was also able to successfully modify your routine to get status updates into Hubitat from a Ring Alarm motion detector. Unfortunately, there are very few videos available about setting up Hubitat and actually making it work.

One difference is that Alexa Routines cannot "react to" Smart Home switches (that is, use them as triggers); Alexa can only turn them on/off as an Action within a Routine. Whereas, Alexa *can* react to sensors/contacts, so if you require Alexa to do something in response to a Hubitat device changing state, it must be a (virtual) sensor or (virtual) contact. You probably already know this, but am posting for the benefit of other readers.

Using Alexa, how can we detect when Ring Alarm is triggered? I want to then activate other Hubitat devices when the Ring alarm is triggered by an intrusion, not just detect the Ring mode status.

I will have to think about this one for a while. Right now I don't know how to accomplish this but will see if I can figure out a way.

I don't see a Ring event available in Alexa that lets you trigger a switch/routine based on the Ring Alarm siren being activated. The most practical answer, however, is to integrate all your Ring devices with Hubitat, which is a process I successfully handled yesterday. It took me about five hours (trial and error), but I wish some Hubitat expert would walk through all the steps in a KZitem video. If a new Hubitat user has never created/activated a user-created Hubitat app (the Hubitat Package Manager, which is the first step), the "how to" documentation on getting this to work could be better in my opinion. The final result looks pretty good, however, and I now have my 10 Ring devices created in Hubitat. Ring Doorbell 2 Pro (1) Ring Indoor Cam (1) Various Ring Alarm Devices (8) - Contact Sensors (4) - Motion Sensors (1) - Range Extender (1) - Keypad (1) - Hub (1) To readdress your question, the status for "alarm" will change from "off" to "siren" in your Ring Alarm device within Hubitat (the "Ring Virtual Alarm Hub") if you have Hubitat/Ring integration. Let me know if you are interested in the series of steps I personally followed. Getting my 13 Insteon devices into Hubitat is my next big challenge.
