The church dedicated to Saint Mary in the Countryside is located near the hospital in Piacenza (Italy) and is one of the most beautiful shrines in Europe. The small bell tower houses five beautiful bells, perfectly tuned to the typical Westminster chord. The chord is in the scale of D flat major. The five bells were cast in 1954, the year the church was elevated to basilica status. Only three bells are ringing in this video, because two engines have failed. At the end of the video you can hear some melodies made with these bells.

The first church was built over a well dedicated to the holy martyrs, who were buried here in 303 during Diocletian's persecution. During the Council of Piacenza on 5 March 1095, Pope Urban II made the decision to call for the First Crusade to reconquer Jerusalem. On 13 April 1522, the new sanctuary was rebuilt, because the number of worshippers had become too large for the previous church. The church in the shape of a Greek cross was completed in 1528; between 1530 and 1535, Pordenone frescoed the dome, one of the most beautiful works in the history of the Italian Renaissance. The church passed to the Franciscan friars in 1547 and was converted to a Latin cross in 1791. After the suppression of the convent by Napoleon, the friars only returned in 1870.
