Thanks for the line review. It's been 15 years since I last fished St Joe's and have just realised how much I miss the Seychelles and fishing for GT.

Let me tell you that you are the reason that got me back to flyfishing, I started 6 years ago but I grown frustrated with fly fishing that I stopped before exploring this amazing sport..however watching your videos got me back to my feet and I just came back from Alphonse Island ;) what a destination ! .... now my question is what would you recommend for 12w reel: Im planning to go for yellowfin tuna > 20kg but also want a reel that I can use for your GTs Tarpons and so on as well Looking forward to hearing back from you

Thank for the message and I am delighted that I could help get you back into the fishing! Reel wise I fish with Hardy Fortunas, and am just about to test the new Fortuna Regents next week in the Seychelles… up to this point I have used Hardy Fortuna XDS reels which are bombproof if you can still find them…

Always love your videos, Peter. Thanks! Did you try pairing the 11 wt line with a 12 wt rod, or do you prefer to keep the weights matched? Thanks again

I love to use the Rio GT line too when I do surf casting , easy to cast and carry the big flies, and the new slick gt line I owned but still haven’t chance to go Maldives to test it, so I really expect to see you report after your trip.

Do you reinforce factory welded loops with say, a nail knot, on the big game lines? Have you heard of loop failures?

No, I cut them off and make my own 50lbs braided loops coated in aquaseal… have a look here kzitem.info/news/bejne/kYOrloqghYiId6Q

The taper looks pretty much like the Orvis (SA) PRO Salt Water all-rounder, except theirs is 40 ft in length and no mention of their core strength. Would be an interesting comparison.

Depends what you want, anything from £300 - £700… I would suggest you go to a tackle shop and try some…

Yes, I always do…

But if you are using 50lb braided mono for a loop, are you not defeating the purpose of the 65lb bs fly line? Or are you simply doubling over the tip of the fly line?

@@mvnowak8350 This is a good question that I hope will be answered. A follow up would be: When if ever will we be able to trust the loops that are factory made? $129 dollars is a lot to pay for something that must be immediately modified. If the factory loops cant be confidently fished, you would think that they would have redesigned these along with the taper, if this is truly "Elite" fishing line.

Good questions.. Mike I have always used loops made from doubled over 50lbs braid which is then aquasured to the fly line. This is more for abrasion resistance than anything as I don’t trust factory loops. Doubling over the fly line works well (and many do this), but personally I feel it creates quite a bulky connection. Will the companies ever make a factory loop we can trust, I believe RIO is currently working on a solution for that which hopefully they will bring to market next year.. we shall see if we trust them or not!

@@AardvarkMcLeodFlyFishing Peter, thanks for the quick reply. I have used what I think is a similar loop making technique to what you describe, but I am not sure it is exactly the same. I agree, doubled over fly line is worrisome when it blows through your rod guides. Have you done a video on your loop making technique? Thank you for all the great information you provide.
