Like the removable transom. Really cool idea. I remember requesting this design feature. It allows for swim up from back for diving applications.

Well, I picked one up yesterday. It will be over a week or so before I can get this on the water. I am looking forward to having a ton of deck space and capacity. It will be a breeze to take my your nephews along with me. I am so EXCITED to move up from a little 10' Lifetime.

Interesting design. I don't think I've seen that much deckspace or tracks on a kayak before, crazy open design. Def think the prop drive needs some redesign to make deploying and stowing a little easier. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the comment bud. I think this thing is going to do really well, but do agree that an easier deploy for the drive would make it awesome. It would probably drive up cost as well though.

be nice if they gave you the open space on the 10 like they do on the 12 and 14 on the front bow. Being I need space for storing the kayak it be nice to have the openness of the 12 and 14 instead of having all the front of the kayak taken up as a storage hole. Give me that in the 10 and I would look at these. they are nice.

That rear hatch looks like a funnel to store water inside that hull. I like the versatility just not sure it can compete with WS Recon 120 in terms of price, quality, & hull design internal/external & pedal drive system for $2100. Maybe if riot 14 was $1400 - $1600. Good review.

@@Fishin-mission1 Im picky too man. For years all they had for bigger guys for Super stable was Hobie Pa & Titan but I just could never justify paying $2800 - $3500 for a non motorized kayak. With this 38' wide platform on WS Recon I can get it for $1100 & add remote trolley power from $600 - $1200 & still be cheaper than top brands & that Recon layout is exactly what I like. I do like Vibe Shearwater too for a more low profile feel & it's $1400 for regular one. So my eyes on those two. Looking to get one within the month. I'm so ready for Spring kayak fishing.

Love your videos! Your walk through & water reviews are so helpful. Great content bro! Quick question: Would you think the metal track mount system on the floor of the hull. Would or could you consider rusting to be an issue. Due to getting wet from the floor. Especially from salt water fishing?
@NextAdventurePDX

Thanks man! I wouldn't be worried about the tracks rusting at all - I've never seen a kayak come from the factory with tracks that rust, and I've used quite a few of them in the salt. You'll be totally fine!

I have been fishing in sub freezing temps recently on my paddle kayak. When things like nets etc get wet they freeze up almost instantly. How do you think this drive would handle that issue? Where it has water in it would it freeze up?

Really digging the Riot Mako 14, it's the perfect size and design for what I want to do. However, when you look at the Riot Kayak website, the photos on landing page for the Mako 14 appear to show a 2nd seat located at the bow? Is that correct? If so, what's the seat brand/model that was used in that photo? It would be ideal for my son to join me.
@NextAdventurePDX
3 жыл бұрын
The seat they're showing on the Riot website is actually the same seat as the other one; you can place that same seat anywhere on the boat due to the way that the track mounts have adjustable width!

Great review. Do you think this would make a good offshore kayak? Also, how heavy is it? Can it be car topped in your opinion?
@NextAdventurePDX
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! While the rocker on the Mako 14 would handle surf well, I generally recommend that people go with narrower kayaks with faster hulls for offshore kayaking. If you find yourself fighting a major tide swing, like the ones we often have here on the Oregon coast, it becomes exhausting trying to pedal or paddle larger kayaks against the power of the ocean! That said, if you're only taking it out on mild days and timing your trip so that you wouldn't be fighting the current, it would do fine offshore. As far as weight, Riot hasn't actually listed the weight specs anywhere yet, but based on my experience of lifting it and carting it around I would wager the hull weight is around 110 pounds. It could be cartopped on a small car solo with some kind of load assist, but would likely be a struggle to load onto an SUV or van.

Drive seems like it moves around a lot when you pedal.
@NextAdventurePDX
3 жыл бұрын
When I was pedaling full speed it was, but I've experienced that in almost all pedal driven kayaks. When you are really pushing them to their limits they all start to wiggle. At normal speeds I haven't seen any yet that move around to a point that I would consider abnormal.

I came here to comment this as well. The kayak itself looks amazing and I love the extra width as someone who is a bigger guy that wants stability. I used to own an Old Town Predator PDL and that drive system was immaculate with no sound or wiggling, but that's also a significantly more expensive yak.
