Socialism, like democracy, is a theory ... an aspiration. The tenets of both have lofty (but attainable) goals. What we actually have in America is socialist herenvolk democracy. It works well enough that people risk their lives to come here. Socialism has the undeniable flaw, that the leadership is a dictatorship that assumes it knows what is best for its citizens and disregards their actual aspirations and administers stiff punishments (death) for any alternative thought or practice. What is missing from both systems is tolerance, justice, and ... well ... loving kindness.
