hi if i measure ripple for a supply 450 v dc , is it obligatory to use 10 x probe !,i got a tecktronix analog with ac coupling .thanks

i tried doing the same thing on my siglent and it's MADDENING - you would THINK that it would center an AC coupled signal but i can only view a signal that's more than 100mv/div. - going down lower puts it off the screen - too far to be retrieved by the vertical adjust .... anyone know what im doing wrong here??

OK i followed your procedure here - setting it to 'peak detect' and it worked better - though measured values dropped from about 40mv peak ripple to 600µv peak ripple, which i don't really trust. I DID change out probe value in software to 10x from 1x just to see if that might do anything and that's when the 600µV stat showed up - but then i changed it back to 1x and the 600µV value didn't change. But at 10x 600µV would only translate to 6mV no?? that doesn't make sense either. not sure what i'm doing wrong here! seems like the settings have a weird persistence (like changing to DC coupling later and AC still shows up in the side bar display)

Ripple is wave , has frequency , noise does not its just noise all frequency's

With oscilloscope probe 1 Mohm input you can't measure noise,

why ?because i measured it , and ill tell you yes you can .

or you just take a DMM set it to AC mV range and there you go .
