club's yearly budget is even less than the salary of sony norde
Most of the players come from humble backgrounds, knowing football is the only way out of poverty
"go play for china" is all they get to hear in the field
The air is optimistic in that part of the world
i-leauge 2017 is the proof of that
Aizawl fc was founded in 1984
but due to lack of sponsor they never really made a mark
after being defunct for over 12 years a group of mizo men restarted the football club in 2011.
as a step to save the youth of the soceity from the shades of drugs
Hmingthana Zadeng, AFC’s current team manager was one of them.
the mizoram based businessman Robert Romania Royte owned the club for his love for football
in 2012 afc graduated from amateur to professional and got a entry to 2nd division i-league, clearing all the AIFF's formalities.
aizawl fc won the 2nd division i-league in 2016 in their 4th attempt
they became the first club to play i-league a division from Mizoram.
They showed their class, even the big clubs had to work hard to beat them.
but it wasnt the end of all their struggles.
Despite not finishing last, the Mizoram team was the only one to be relegated to the lower tier
as it entered the I-league through the corporate quota
an uncomfortable silence had set across the North Eastern state
it was clearly unfair, not only to the team but to the fans, the entire mizo community
who have never registered less than a maximum capacity in the ground even in the division 2 matches
It’s a matter of pride for a Mizo to play for Aizawl; it’s almost like representing the Army for them
due to the positive approach to all the matches and faith in the local players the club had a wave of sentiment going for it
it was further strengthened by their dream performance in the federation cup last year
even the freshly-crowned champions Bengaluru and Sporting Clube de Goa stood nowhere in front of them
banners in the aizawl crowd read “Dear AIFF, please judge AFC by points and not money”
all the prayers, writtings, requests, rallies didnt go in vain
in the month of september they were again included in the national league of football
but the question was still there, is a club with only 16 points capable of playing in the highest level?
the tag of "failure" was still there
Khalid Jamil, the Kuwait-born former India international, has been coaching mumbai fc for past seven years.
Some say he had overachieved by just keeping the low-budget club in the top division.
while his critics argued that under him the team wasn’t ambitious enough and were eager to conclude that his seven years as the handler were a "failure"
in the year of 2016 mumbai fc parted ways with him, a relationship of over a decade long has ended
“Aisa laga kisine mujhe mere ghar se nikal dia,” this is all jamil had to say.
when aizawl fc approached Jamil as a coach, it was like a marriage that was meant to happen between a club an a coach, who both were termed as a "failure"
in i-league 2017 mumbai fc got relegated for the first time in seven years.
while the underdog, aizawl fc lifted the title
in a rain soaked deciding match against the mohunbagan fc in the home ground it was 0-0 till the 83rd minute
A corner from Syrian midfielder Mahmoud al-Amna and a header from defender Zohmingliana Ralte, and thats it
the 1-0 win over Mohunbagan turned everything upside down
only one step away from the title they needed to only draw the next match againts the neighboring shillong lajong fc
none of the aizawl fc players got a call in the national squad inspite of being in the forms of their life
while FIFA chief Gianni Infantino sent a mail congratulating Aizawl FC on I-League win
AIFF still couldn't manage time to atleast appreciate the effort the boys had put on
Well indian football is developing i guess ||
now as the plannings of AIFF, Indian super league and I-league is going to be combined together to make ISL the only football league of India
clubs like Eastbengal, Mohunbagan and Bengaluru fc will be included to it, keeping the emotions of their fans in mind
but the emotion and passion for the mizo people is again being ignored
From relegation to triumph... to relegation again?
A question from Grown up tales to AIFF.
Share the video so much that it reaches AIFF, Aizawl fc gets justice and deserved appreciation to it's effort and AIFF decides to review their decision once..
