Snakes are strange, dangerous and unpredictable animals. Man has never been indifferent to these mysterious creatures. He has sometimes hated and sometimes worshipped them. In Moslem and Judeo-Christian societies, snakes have been associated with evil and with the devil himself. In other cultures, they have been regarded as sacred messengers, or rain and fertility gods.
This film enables us to discover strange rituals and ceremonies in which man still uses snakes in his quest to understand the great mysteries of the world.
In North America, the Hopi Indians dance with rattlers. In India, snakes have their festival day, the Nag Panchami. In Burma, a priestess must kiss a terrifying king cobra in order to assure the survival of her village, and in Australia, the aborigenes still worship the great rainbow snake, creator of all things.
