This song is originally written by Tina Turner and Ike in July 1972. After this in year 1973 Humble Pie performs different version of this song. In my opinion it sounds better and is very similiar as this version from Rival Sons.

I've been critical of the Son's attempting to ape Marriott's version in the past and have got much abuse because of it. I will say one thing that does really matter though. Modern production techniques apply much -in-your-face compression and this tends to make tracks sound bigger and more powerful because of it. In Humble Pie's day, production techniques involved a lot of dynamics and fairly light compression.This does make a difference to those who were not brought up on classic rock. For me the only the version that matters is Steve's but then again I'm biased...but I've yet to hear a better version (in my Humble opinion). On a live stage, how many singers can still be heard when not using a mic? Steve could, I know, I was there. Thanks for reading.

No doubt this is a very good cover but for me, being a Humble Pie fan, they really should've gone for their own version rather than a slavish copy of the original. There will only ever be one Marriott and attempting to copy him has been the downfall of many a singer in the past. The singer for the RS needs to develop his own style and become known for that rather than a bloke who tries to sing like Steve Marriott. Just my Humble opinion!
@grantshenton7079

+Tony Miles I guess this is the first time you have ever listened to Jay, right? "The singer for the RS needs to develop his own style and become known for that rather than a bloke who tries to sing like Steve Marriott." This is just laughable. Actually this is the first time I have heard Jay sing like other singer, he usually makes his own version of the song when he covers (which he rarely does covers) Listen to the other Rival Sons songs. Well I know I did antagonize you and I apologize for that but one thing I can't stand is when people talk about stuff they do not know. By the Way if you want to hear Jay in his natural state check this out watch?v=Maq2OZ0COUE
@tonymiles5857
8 жыл бұрын
+farrex0 +farrex0 You'll happy to know (I hope) that I'm not antagonised and therefore no need to apologise. It's not the first time I've heard Jay and generally like his voice but I stand by what I say. The guy is a great singer but I'd prefer to hear him develop his own style rather copying Marriott's on this particular track. I'm not sure what you mean about 'people talk about stuff they do not know' but having been a Marriott fan since 1968 and having seen him live many times I feel suitably knowlegeable in that department. Listening to Jay I can hear all sorts of influences, not just Marriott, there's some Paul Rogers, Robert Plant and Chris Cornell in there too :-)
@farrex0
8 жыл бұрын
+Tony Miles Yep, it is almost impossible to sing 70's Hard Rock style without sounding a bit like Marriott. He is the one that inspired Plant and Led Zeppelin was the first Hard Rock band (as far as I know) or at least the first popular Hard Rock band. However what I meant by "people talk about stuff they do not know" I was talking about the part that Ray needs to develop his own style. Although I do agree that here he sings like Marriott instead of making his own version. I thought you have not heard about Jay because this is the very first time I have heard him sing like another singer. Sure he has his influences, like every other singer, but he has developed his own style.
@tonymiles5857
8 жыл бұрын
+farrex0 And if Jay keeps going the way he's going, he could be up there with the 'greats'. I'll certainly be keeping my ears open for the band's future works. And you're right, the story goes that Plant was indeed influenced by Marriott. You only have to listen to the Small Faces' 'You Need Loving' and Zep's 'Whole Lotta Love' to work that out :-)
@littlefury
6 жыл бұрын
Very nicely played, but unfortunately the production is pretty bad. No dynamics, it's completely brickwalled. That's really striking when you compare this version to the original by Ike & Tina, and Humble Pie's.
@prisueco2823
6 жыл бұрын
That's the thing...it's a more raucous version but lacks the subtlety and put genius of Marriott's voice
