Loved seeing your faces, as newbies, you made me smile!! My Husband Ron, and I have done every river in Europe, some multi times. And have actually done 2 Christmas market trips! Highlight of our first was i was interviewed by the Christmas Angel for German Television, when we visited the one, and the Best in Nuremburg, Germany. And the whole ship got to watch it that evening on the ship in the lounge! Also, at every Market we visited, i got one of the town souvenir cups, and brought each one home. Still have them hanging up on a peg rack my husband made for me. Glad you were able to enjoy this part of Europe in the winter. The snow really makes the Season, come alive! Vickie from SE Pa

Question Josh & Taylor: do you think adding a land package pre cruise would have helped with the travel fatigue on day 1?
@travelwithjoshandtaylor
7 ай бұрын
That could definitely help, but we would normally recommend always flying in at least 1 day if not 2 in case of issues with travel (like flight delays) and that extra day will help with the travel fatigue.

Curious why fly to Istanbul and then back to Basel? Miami to Zurich and then a train ride to Basel would’ve been quicker no?

Price. The cost to fly for two people with luggage was only about 400 per person. No other airline could match that price with luggage and seats included.

Pro tip for the Christmas markets...... Bring empty food containers and/or storage bags, in your backpack, to the Christmas markets. Trust me, the locals ALL do this! The many, many, many food stalls are a must! The portions are large, and the prices are good, especially compared to Disneyworld! Two people can split most items and still bring back delicious food to your ship for midnight snacks. The portions are really too big for 2 people to finish and then try more items. Each item is almost the size of a meal for one person. Plan to share everything, and even then, you will have food to bring back to your hotel or ship. You must try curry wurst (pronounced vurst), roasted mushrooms, and strudel, along with many more wonderful food! Also, do try the frites (fries), with the sauces they recommend. Very different from the US. Familiar, yet amazing. 😉 Also, gluhwein stalls are everywhere! Understand that the mulled wine is served in a cute little tea cup, for which they charge you a deposit. If you return the little mug, you get some money back. If you do not return the little mug, you have an authentic gluhwein cup souvenir. 😉

After working many years for a global, German company, I have developed a deep love of gluhwein (pronounced "glue vine", in Germany). You guys are taking one of the very best cruises in the world! I've been lucky enough to travel to Germany for Christmas markets, on business, but I've never taken one of the river cruises. It's on my bucket list. Thank you for sharing! Safe travels! 🙏 💜

One more thing, then I'll shut up. In Europe, almost every dessert is called a "pudding". Cake? That's a pudding. Trifle? Yep, pudding. Most desserts are "puddings". Except for what Americans refer to as "pudding". In Europe, THATS a custard. 🤣

how active can one be on the Christmas market river cruise; are there excursions during the daytime, did you get lots of steps in?
@travelwithjoshandtaylor
Жыл бұрын
The excursions were very active. They were almost all walking excursions except for one day when they altered due to weather and maybe have the excursion a bus tour. You can also do as much or as little as you want. In most cases, your docked right next to the city so it’s very easy to get around on foot.

Has a thermometer like any other cruise ship or cruise line (River/oceanic). Air conditioner and all. Just like an ocean cruise, if you open the window or door the system stops running to conserve power.
