This is part of the Dorset Stour. The river has what is called a free stretch, which basically means anybody can fish it without paying for club memberships or day tickets. YOU DO NEED A ROD LICENCE. This stretch is from the Water works by New Road Ferndown to the wier at Throop, where it becomes Throop Fishery where the fishing rights are owned by the Ringwood & District anglers association. day tickets are available from most local tackle shops, currently at £12 or £9 for concessions. My walk today takes me downstream, followed by a short walk upstream, the latter part was shorter than expected due to the unusually high water levels. The river bank is considerably further out than you see today under normal conditions. Where I stopped for my coffee and sandwich you will see in the middle of the picture, in the distance, a yellow sign and some fencing. The sign warns of the high risk of fire and bans fires and barbecues, the river bank is some way beyond this.
There are number of access points to this stretch of river, the one I used was via Stour Valley Nature Reserve, this is entered on the corner of Granby Road and Muscliffe Lane.
