My mother loved Riverview. I got Kiddie Land, Santas Village, and Old Chicago. Great memories. I am glad you were able to present this place. It was long gone by the time I was born but it was nice to see the place where so many had such happy memories.

I'm playing the group Chicago while watching this in its vintage glory. I love the nostalgia of old theme parks, too bad I was not around to be there.

I WAS 14 WHEN IT CLOSED FOR SOME REASON I DIDNT KNOW IT WAS CLOSING ,I THINK I TOOK IT FOR GRANTED THAT IT WOULD BE THERE SAD BECAUSE I ONLY LIVED ABOUT 8 BLOCKS AWAY ,IT BECAME AN INDUSTRIAL PARK AND A STRIP MALL THEY ALSO BUILT THE BELMONT POLICE STATION ON THE CORNER OF BELMONT AND WESTERN,THE MALL WAS AT ROSCOE AND WESTERN ,I USED TO GO TO THE 24 HOUR JEWEL FOOD STORE IN THAT MALL . P.S. i forget mention my grand father worked on the fireball rollercoaster and my aunt took tickets on the greyhound rollercoaster and myfavorite ,because i dont favor high places was aladdens casle ,but i have been on the rollor coasters .

Among my very favorite memories as a kid in 50s and early 60s!! The Bob's, Wild Mouse, Silver Stream, Parachute Ride, Shoot the Chutes, Aladdin's Castle!!! The BEST. I don't think the shots at the beginning were from Riverview, however.

im guessing that parachute ride was the predecessor to modern drop tower rides! drop towers is pretty much my favorite non-coaster thrill ride! wonder what if would be like to ride the grandfather of the drop tower! while it looks slower than modern ones it also looks way less controlled which can make it scary in its own way!

look at all those terrific rides in this old B&W movie, and then one day in October of 1967 they tore all of them down, because, "the land that Riverview Park occupied there was worth way more than the yearly income it generated". Talk about people with no heart, none

Went there just before they tore it down, glad I rode the parachute ride one time more. Rode all the rides that last time rode the bobbs over and over cus no one was there. So sad. They had machine guns, you shoot at targets. Didn't mentioned the fire ball was said at the time the fastest, 80 mph into the tunnel. You could see the parachute ride from the highway.

Where is this from? I think I saw a special on Chicago PBS WTTW back in the 90s about Chicago way back. I want a copy of that show.

Live footage of Riverview and the Bobs... kzitem.info/news/bejne/04Kg3XV8e4t9nWk 90 feet tall, 50 mph... pretty ridiculous for 1924, and with all those wicked turns and air-time The Bobs would still be one of THE best woodies today.

It was unexpected that the park closed after the 1967 season. It was open between Memorial Day and Labor Day each year and there was no warning that the '67 season would be the last. But, with the social unrest of the '60s and the fact that the land on which it stood had become quite valuable, the owners essentially took the money and ran. I lived 2 blocks from the park between 1955 and 1963 and the sights and sounds are forever in my memories. It old and tawdry, a relic of times past but it was a fun place to go. Good memories...

Watching this makes me depressed because i know this place probably looks like a warzone or 3rd world country.

The park was completely torn down in 1967. That area of Chicago is actually in good shape - 3200 North. Actually the whole north side of Chicago is fine. The news stories you hear are from areas of the south & west sides.
