RL Burnside doing his version of .44 blues that was written by Roosevelt Sykes. The videos not that great, just wanted to share the song since it's not on youtube.

The phrasing is amazing when I realize every mistake I think I hear, he purposefully places in the song, only proven by him repeating said rhythm, or phrase seemingly with ease. It seems as though his expression is that of dis-array or strife. This guy really has opened my eyes to this genre, and has expressed to me what it really means for him to play the Blues. Very nice.

thank you. your comment has just made me aware too that I listen deeply in awe to another blues player who sounds "off" in many parts of his playing, keeps repeating same "off notes" and I'm loving it though. Must be me comprehending his blues style. His music connecting with my soul and emotions. Authentic self taught style unpolished pure down to earth heartachy gutsy foot-tapping twangin with suffering, love, life and hope. thankyou Lord.🙏 Blues is so cool. 🖤💙🖤💙🖤

I don't know who took the picture..but I know where it was taken! That was at Junior Kimbrough's Juke Joint in Chulahoma,Ms. It was between Senatobia and Holly Springs,Ms. on Hwy 4..It was burned to the ground back in year 2000. They rebuilt Junior's Juke Joint #2 in Holly Springs,Ms. on Hwy 7. I grew up a few miles down the road (in a dry county) and my dad would always go there to by beer or whatever they were selling under the counter..lol..I went there as well when I was a teen and by a 40oz for someone to go in there and by me beer too..LOL! ;) You can see Junior in the background of that picture you are talking about! Hope this might help you,if you haven't found it already..I know it's been 4yrs since you wrote this comment.

This is the real deal guitar style from Africa. Just listen to Ali farka toure. I love real soul in my blues. We need more young artists to live poor and play happy. The only deference between rich and poor is satisfaction if they are satisfied with the way they sound hen the play they are rich in their soul. Don't let some producer lead you wrong they don't know shit about music.

as much as I like this, for anyone who doesn't know, the guitar is really playing something closer to Smokestack Lightning than 44
@HoopaZero
9 жыл бұрын
if you can play both pieces on guitar (like me), then I guess your opinion is as valid as mine, and we'll just have do disagree if you can't play them, then perhaps other guitarists on here can say their opinion - the hook is all over this such that I think many casual listeners would misidentify it if asked to compare with the 2 Howlin Wolf songs, without picking out the lyrics
@HoopaZero
9 жыл бұрын
I don't know if you actually read what I wrote, but it doesn't use the word 'wrong'. The hook played here is closer to smokestack lightning than 44, so if anyone without the depth of knowledge of Blues is looking for the tab they might want to know this I don't think anything is 'wrong'. I think the music is very good, but if someone mashes things together, lyrics and hooks and rhythms, I don't think it wrong of me to point out the lyrics from 44 are mixed with playing closer to smokestack lightning someone looking for tab to learn this might understand my point
