Grazie Lorenzo

Oggi l'amplificatore è ancora buono o hai avuto problemi?

Luca Iu0fom

Could you give details of what transistor they put it? Do you have the part number? I think the original transistors are 4 x MRF455 or 4 x SD1446?

Hello, what is max power consumption in ssb? They write 60Amps on the eshop page, I wonder if I can use 50amps PSU when running ssb only?

This HLA 300 V Plus - HP claims output power of 500 Watts. The "HP" indicates higher power using (4) 2SC2879 transistors, rated at 100 Watts each. Notice this video at 1:19 this test is getting 525 watts out on SSB (upper sideband) of the 20Meter band. The two unknowns are: 1. The amount of voltage above 13.8 VDC supplied, and 2. The amount of wattage drive power his radio is putting out to drive this amplifier. Overdriving or overvolting an amplifier reduces its lifespan, and often burns out some of its sensitive circuitry. I'm guessing the optimal power out that keeps this amplifier happy is bettween 400 - 450 watts, even though it can do more. Is it worth spending another $265.00 (which is more than half again the cost of the standard HLA 300V plus) to gain another 100 watts? Answer: NO. Because increasing power another 100 watts won't even give you a gain of 3 dB, and 3 dB is equal to only a single "S" Unit in reception. In order for this High Power amplifier to produce 3 dB over and above it's standard HLA 300V Plus amplifier, it would have to produce at least 800 watts output, giving only one S unit to the receiving station. Additionally, if it produced 800 watts SSB at 13.8 V.D.C., it would need a massive power supply producing nearly 100 Ampres, and no 13.8 power supply produces such current. So the amplifier would then have to run on AC Mains power of 125 VAC or more. This is beyond the limits of mobile type amplifiers running on 13.8 V.D.C. so any need to produce more than about 500 watts FM or SSB at 13.8 V.D.C. must be supplied by a table model amplifier running on 125/250 V.A.C. Cost/Per Watt is an important factor too. The standard HLA 300 V Plus amplifier has a Cost Per Watt of about $1.19 per Watt. The HLA 300 V Pluss HP amplifier has a Cost Per Watt of about $1.57 per watt, and remember that these extra 100 watts over the HLA 300 V Plus will only yield about .75 dB gain which equals not even a single S Unit for receiving stations. Instead, you would be better off doing the following: 1. Make sure your SWR is low and your antenna is tuned properly and as high as possible. 2. Use a microphone designed to cut through DX pile-ups, and use good audio processing or compression which boosts your transmitted audio at least 2 S Units or more to the listener. 3. Make sure you have a very solid good ground, using at least an 8 foot external ground rod or more, connected to your equipment with very heavy gauge wire (#4 gauge or lower) and eliminate any possible ground loops. These techniques work without putting more dollar$ and watts into your station. It's similar to a car race, where car " A" is a big heavy hot rod with a massive engine. Car "B" is a small lightweight car with a small engine but with plenty of torque.

jennifer86010 I mostly agree - although one S-Unit is *6dB* increase in power :) Mobile amps which produce a little more power exist, like e.g. the SGC PowerCube SG-500, the tube powered(!) P&H Electronics LA-500M and of course many "10m" amps from various builders..
