Despite Rick being rather real in the segment, that’s the one part where he’s out of his mind. If the governor general even lose a toe out of line there is typically a political crisis. Australia’s 1975 Constitutional Crisis being exhibit A and the King-Bing affair being exhibit B

Viennery No, the Commonwealth is a separate concept. Republics can be in the commonwealth. ***** Explained well, Elizabeth II is the Queen of Canada and the Queen of England, but the Queen of England is not Canada's queen, make sense? Think about it this way, I could be the CEO two companies, Canada Corp and England Corp. Being simultaneously the CEO of two companies does not mean England Corp owns Canada Corp any more than Canada Corp owns England Corp. Even though the CEO of both companies is the same physical person.

If my dad is the Police Chief and the Fire chief, and someone asks me who is the Fire chief, and I reply the Police Chief, is that wrong? As the Queen of England and the Queen of Canada are by tradition and likely by law currently one and the same person, isn’t the current Queen of England whether or not England becomes a full republic sometime in the future also the Queen of Canada? If so wouldn’t either designation as well as the Queen of whatever else she may be queen of, be a valid designation? Once England becomes a full republic that designation would no longer hold true as when my dad retires as the Police chief.

YES, SHE HOLDS THE TITLE ,,, BUT IT IS A CONSTITUTIONAL MONARCHY , ONLY !!! Canada is a Sovereign Nation .. Makes her own decisions etc. As all Commonwealth Nations do ...Canada ,only pays homage constitutionaly , lip service to the Crown ,, but Canada , also belongs , to the British Commonwealth of Nations .. Which includes many Nations World -wide .. Its a strong Commonwealth .. And in a 150 years the Bonds between these Nations has never been broken .... Canada has many Bonds with other Nations across the World that do not belong to the Commonwealth .. Holland , Belgium , who the Canadians Liberated , at great losses & to this very day those Countries Honour Canada & the thousands of Canadians that gave their lives for them & remain & lie buried in their grounds .. So let's not get too carried away here :))) Canada has Served the World well .. And never asked a thing back !!! Basically in the 60's & 70's we were for years , Peace Keepers , UNTIL we threw our lot in with the U.SA. We have always been there for them , in their Crisis's etc. ..UNTIL changes were made , but ,,one sometimes has to give their head a shake at what our neighbours are doing .. We Will & WILL Continue to remain Loyal as Friends , but , oh !! One does not want to get shafted , as it is unfortunatley being Economically done to us ... Fair Trade ??? Well , Fair Trade or the Word "Fair" , means , Every One Should get a piece of the Sausage , not JUST The Who One Cry & Whimper , OR BULLY !! if they don't get 85 % of it .. Give & Take , SHOULD BE THE NAME OF THE GAME !! A real Deal-maker or Negotiator should know how to make it work !! So all walk away satisfied !!

Thank you for your rendition of our political system; you make it sound so ridiculous, which it is. Has anyone ever sat back and looked into the amount of money it takes to keep this morinic Democracy system ticking; I,ll bet you it's in the billions of dollars. No wonder we have such a deficit. If we were to take in all of our elections, the cost of MP's, MLA's, Civic leaders, government services, excluding law enforcement and other essential services, but embracing foreign councels - our country would be pretty well off. Proroguing government has been used too often and is not subject to holding our politicians to account, but if they were not being paid for the same period it would be a hard lesson for them to learn and tey would use it more wisely and wouldn't be as flippant about it.

Gabe wasn't insulting immigrants, Jay. He was saying that he took issue that new Canadian citizens had to swear an oath to the Queen. What else is the government doing? Going on vacation and lying? It wouldn't be that hard to change and we're going to have to do it all again anyway when Elizabeth dies and her son takes the crown and we have to change all the "Queen" and "Her Majesty" to "King" and "His Majesty".
@agilemind6241
6 жыл бұрын
No because people weren't that stupid when they wrote the constitution etc.. all the reference to the monarch use both genders already. And yes it would be that hard to change because it requires changing the constitution which requires unanimous consent of the provinces some of which have laws requiring referendums for their approval of significant changes to the constitution - and that is before you get into the whole "Quebec never approved the current constitution" debacle and have to deal with all those extra negotiations (see Meech Lake Accord and Charlottetown Accords to see how well that has gone in the past). There is still an on going court case challenging Harper's change to the rules of succession of the Monarchy to treat male and female heirs equally - and that is a change that has broad approval among Canadians. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/quebec-court-appeal-royal-succession-law-1.4541398
@GuruJudge21

It does not. It says 'Queen' throughout the whole thing. I even believed you at first, but I looked it up on the Government's site and then I looked up the physical document. It says Queen throughout the whole thing from 1867 to 1982. Maybe I'm ignorant, and every document I've seen is filling in a blank where it says [Insert Gender Appropriate Monarchial Title] or it says 'Queen'. So, unless Canada wants to be officially ruled by Charle's wife, we're going to have to change it. Yes, there would be a political debacle. The Canadian Government is seemingly incapable of doing anything simply. What I am saying is it that it wouldn't be actually difficult to do, just annoying to get started. Or maybe it would be harder, considering the BNA Act is apparently still in Britain. Obviously, the rights of succession should be cognatic, it'd only be sexist not to. That's something that really doesn't matter since the direct heirs are all men. I support that change and I want the monarchy abolished.

He could be a senator, a private citizen or something else(except dead, I don't think they will let him continue if he's dead-unless he rly rly wanted to ;P). Usually if a party wins but the leader loses another member will step down so the leader can run in a by-election but its not a requirement. I think Chretien had to do this once.
