A film commissioned by Cunard promoting a world cruise on the RMS Caronia taking in excess of 100 days to complete some 33 thousand miles visiting the major continents and sights of the world. The footage shows much of life on the ship, and visits away at exotic locations.
This dates some time between 1952 and 1956 I think (as world cruises on the ship started in 1952, and full aircon is not boasted in the film, and this did not appear until 1956). There is a longer promo film for the ship at this time running to about 55mins. The film here is about 27mins, and draws on similar footage, but has a different narration, so I think it brings something new to the party. I guess this shorter version was for the world cruiser that was in a hurry.
The RMS Caronia (34,183 GRT) was launched in 1947 and sailed for Cunard between 1948-68. Her short adventurous cruising life was ended ignominiously in 1969, and she was then neglected until wrecked on the way to scrapping in 1974.
Digitised from 16mm film at a frame of 1920-1080 pixels, 2K resolution.
