I love this car. I have had it for around 7-8 months and have over 20K miles on it with zero warranty issues. Cold starts have not been an issue. Left at the airport in an open parking lot for close to a week in single digit temps and started it with my smartphone from the terminal without issue. I would not recommend the diesel unless you are do mostly long trips and can take advantage of the highest MPG. My total lifetime average from the day it rolled off the car hauler is 43mpg with a high of 52. Most will compare it to the Eco in price and cost per mile but this car has some serious torque and you cannot get upgraded interior with the Eco. I have heated leather and think the seats are great. I am about 6ft tall and about 175 lbs and have no issues on 8 hr trips only stopping once because my bladder doesn't last as long as the tank of diesel. Interior is also very quiet at highway speeds. The car handles well in the snow and ice due to the extra weight of the diesel engine. I have owned Dodge, Jeep, Chevy, Toyota and once considered the Jetta until Volkswagen made them plain jane at the last restyle. And also for Motor Trend the dealers had no problem selling all that were allocated in 2014 and in most cases were not willing to dealer trade if the other dealer did not have one to give them back.

Very fun drive and great styling and I do a lot of highway driving in northern california where so far I am averaging well over the reported highway MPG. Ive had stretches where I average over 50mpg. Great car so far!

Gotta agree with you on this. I was driving a 2005 Saab 9-5 as a daily driver and it was a great little car. I traded it in towards one of these fully loaded and LOVE it! I have my other vehciles for fun but driving 130 miles a day for work I needed something good on fuel as good or better than my Saab. I have been averaging about 53 MPG (almost all of my commute is highway with a speed limit of 70 mph) and getting well over 700 miles to a tank. So far I have been using around a tank of fuel per week so about $55 or so. I love mine, makes my long commute much easier and more enjoyable.

most of what is said is spot on. When it comes to longer brake distance, you have to realize that the diesel has Low Rolling Resistance tires that have abysmal grip even compared to a standard all season tire. at 70 mph I get EPA rating constantly. At 60mph I'm at 50 and at 50mph I'm at 65. City I get 33.4 mpg over 11,000 miles . The car doesn't really sound loud and diesel like unless you are listening for it. it does have nose dive but the emergency brake assist is a great addition.

I picked up a 2014 VW Jetta TDI Value edition brand new in 6/2015 for 19k marked down from 23k since it was a left over 2014. That is called a steal. Has everything I need. One touch Windows, heated seats, aux/mdi, monster mats, xm radio, and I have been averaging 42mpg combined as the Tdi exceeds the epa estimates. 550+ miles of combined driving, I'll take that any day. Diesel here in FL is 10 cents cheaper than regular. 2.79 vs 2.69
