December 23 - A traditional Xhosa choir embarked on a journey exceeding 900km from Johannesburg to Qunu in the Eastern Cape to pay their last respects to Nelson Mandela.
The former president passed away in his Houghton home on December 5, 2013. The choir, led by 50-year-old Thandi Bushula, spent the week before the funeral selling Mandela memorabilia to raise money for their trip which began on December 13, a week after Madiba's death.
Despite an eight-hour delay to the start of the journey and no secure place to sleep, nothing would sway the choir's determination to say goodbye to their beloved Tata Madiba in Qunu.
