Road trip From Delhi to Meghalaya - • DELHI TO MEGHALAYA ROA...
Meghalaya Episode 1 - • Road trip Delhi to Meg...
In this video we have covered Mawlynnong , Single Root Bridge and Dawki.
It was our second day in Shillong and we decided to head towards Dawki. We woke to a rainy morning in Shillong and started early as Dawki is a 2 hours drive from here. Roads are in super good conditions and you’ll see lush green mountains. Since it was raining this made a perfect drive wanting us to stop at every turn.
We reached Dawki in 2 hours around 8:30am . As always we were the first ones to reach there and opted for a boat ride in Umngot river. Umngot river is one of the Asia’s cleanest river and one can see the stone bed beneath very clearly.
Best time to visit this place is from November to April since once the monsoon arrives the river flows rises and boating is not recommended. Besides Boating one can opt for camping by the river bank , go for kayaking and snorkeling.
For boating they charged around 800/- for 30 mins and 1200/- for an hour. We opted for an hour and this was a great experience ,not to be missed when in Meghalaya. We also enjoyed maggi and coffee by the river bank.
This place also stands as the border of India and Bangladesh. This river divides Khasi hills with Jaintia Hills. People are very nice over here.
Next we headed towards Mawlynnong which is one hour drive from Dawki. One the way you can easily spot Bangladesh on your right. Driving along the border is a thrilling experience.
The beauty of Mawlynnong cannot be described in words this can only be experienced.
This village was awarded as Asia’s cleanest village in 2003. Since then it has gained its popularity. The villagers are very particular about the cleanliness of their surroundings and plastic is banned here.
Just before Mawlynnong we decided to go to single root bridge which was a 10 mins walk. Living root bridges are another unique wonder of nature. It is a good option for the people who want to skip double decker bridge as it’s comparatively difficult to trek there. Entry fee is 40/- per person and extra amount for the camera. On the way you’ll come across some shops with handicraft items and black berries & Pineapple. Do try the pineapple and blackberries they are just awesome.
Afterwards we proceeded to Mawlynnong village, fee 50/- per person. We enjoyed our time there in such cute village. Also, went up to Bangladesh view point which is a private property amd entry fee is 20/- . This is a bridge kind of structure made with bamboo and jute. This is quite sturdy and is a must visit.
That’s all for the day. Headed to Sohra as our stay for the night was in Aisha Guest House. It’s a good property with very basic facilities.
Price for a night 3500/- approx(with BF)
