Another nice video, Hoosier Boo! I also enjoy roadside Americana. Your video brought to mind one of my favorite “road trip” movies, Paris, Texas. Have you seen it? You will definitely need to go back and stay at The Blue Swallow. So cool! Maybe Tippi Curio will be open then and you can film inside. The Memorial of Perpetual Tears was very moving indeed. Keep up the good work. Thanks for sharing!

I had not heard of Paris, Texas the movie, might check that out sometime. And I may or may not have already been back to stay at the Blue Swallow Motel! Thank you for the kind comment, more to come!

Great points at 9:30 about the Tear site and the effect of drunk driving in New Mexico. A large percentage of the deaths are Native, or Tribe Americans driving drunk and killing others both on and off the reservations. It's so bad that visitors to this state should be very careful driving, everywhere, even on I40. Especially the old Route 66, which meanders thru some reservations and law enforcement is fairly lax. New Mexico was the state where The Doors Jim Morrison saw the nasty wreck along Route 66. Even then. It's so bad that tourists or drivers should be hyper alert in NM, especially on holidays, weekends and around Gallup, NM. Thanks for pointing out the memorial, none of the other countless Route 66 pimps even bother to mention any negative distractions, or reality from the Route. Route 66 is a defunct old cross-country road. Today, it's being hyped for some reason. See the sights, check out the new stores, hotels, restaurants, etc. None owned by the original Route 66 old time owners. As much as I love driving the Route just for the sport and sense of history it appears to become nearly as bad as it was in the old days. For example, the Route has nothing to do with Elvis or Marilyn Monroe. However, Elvis did travel it dozens of times back and forth between Memphis, Las Vegas and Hollywood/Palm Springs. He even had a regular room at the old Best Western in Clinton, Oklahoma. Thanks for your posts. Best to your site.

I appreciate your comment! It really is a problem in NM and on the reservations. I frequent the Four Corners region and always extra careful, especially at night, due to potential drunk drivers. I did not know about the Jim Morrison incident, interesting! Since Elvis and Marilyn are both romanticized symbols of the 50's along with Route 66, I suppose they often get grouped together. Sadly, that motel Elvis stayed at in Clinton just got torn down a few months ago!

I stayed at the Clinton, OK a couple of times, the last I think in 2010. It was right across the street from the Clinton Route 66 Museum. The first stay there was way back in 1975, right after I got out of the Army. In 2010 the place looked the same but the night we stayed the place was literally emply until early in the morning. Plus, the local people used the place to spin donuts, have fights, pick up chicks and make a lot noise. Guess the place had to go. Clinton seems to be one of those Route 66 towns that has made serious effort to thrive off tourism. They've received a load of both federal and state money to do that. However, there really isn't a lot to do there. I went to a town down the road to eat BBQ since there was none in Clinton. I did hear that some people are trying to reopen the Pop's diner in town. The hotel that burned down near it has already been rebuilt and I think is open. @@hoosiertours
