In this video we are taking you along with us on a road trip to a relatively unexplored valley of Kashmir i.e. Gurez Valley. In this video you will be able to see our road trip until Razdaan Pass of Gurez Valley.
We started or road journey from Srinagar and visited Manasbal Lake. Manasbal Lake is a freshwater lake located in Safapora area of Ganderbal District in Jammu and Kashmir, India. The name Manasbal is said to be a derivative of Manasarovar. The lake is encircled by four villages viz., Jarokbal, Kondabal, Nesbal (situated on the north-eastern side of the lake) and Gratbal. The large growth of lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) at the periphery of the lake (blooms during July and August) adds to the beauty of the clear waters of the lake. The Mughal garden, called the Jaroka Bagh, (meaning bay window) built by Nur Jahan overlooks the lake.
The lake is a good place for birdwatching as it is one of the largest natural stamping grounds of Aquatic birds in Kashmir and has the sobriquet of "supreme gem of all Kashmir Lakes". The rootstocks of lotus plant which grows extensively in the lake are harvested and marketed, and also eaten by the local people.
Later we saw Wular Lake also but because of time constraint we didn't explored it thoroughly. Wular Lake (Urdu pronunciation: [ʋʊləɾ]), also known as Wolar (Kashmiri pronunciation: [wɔlar]) in Kashmiri, is one of the largest fresh water lakes in South Asia. It is located near Bandipora town in the Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir, India. The lake basin was formed as a result of tectonic activity and is fed by the Jhelum River and stream Madhumati and Arin. The lake's size varies seasonally from 30 to 189 square kilometres.
We also visited Peer Baba Dargah and Kali Mata Temple just a few Kilometre before Razdaan Pass. A few kilometres short of the pass lies the Peer Baba shrine, dedicated to a revered local saint, who is buried here. It is the oldest shrine in the area and is maintained by the Indian army. The shrine’s interior floral decorations with its vivid blue exterior, overlooking the calm valley, offer the traveller serene and picturesque moments to capture on film.
In the last part of video we are showing you Razdan Pass. Razdan Pass, (sometimes Rajdhan Pass) is a 3,556 m (11,667 ft) high mountain pass in the Himalayas of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It connects the Gurez Valley in the north to the Kashmir Valley in the south, and is located in the Bandipora district. The pass remains closed for vehicular movement for over 3-4 months during winter due to heavy snowfall.
The pass is the only route connecting Gurez with the rest of the world. The pass connects dozens of remote and far-flung areas, including those near the Line of Control with the district headquarter of Bandipora, and is of strategic importance. The Harmukh mountain, the highest peak in the surrounding area, is also visible from here. Watch :
