Really enjoy your videos! I wanted a Prius, and test drove one. I ended up not liking the weird dash display, and it was noisier than I thought it would be. I ended up putting in an order for a 2024 NX 350H, which should be arriving in about 4-5 months. Thanks for your informative and honest videos!

Be sure to test drive a Rav4 Prime before you make a final decision there. I like the Rav Prime a lot better (that’s what I own) for its added practicality, power, and standard AWD. It is considerably more than the Prius Prime, but I think you get your money’s worth. Especially if your child is younger and will grow into school and sports, or you plan to have more kids.

Josh, great vid, as a toyota owner I have been steadily going through all your content after discovering the channel a few weeks ago. I can feel you like these cars, yet you do not hesitate to (politely) criticise or call out BS. I love this Prius's white colour, great choice. 50 mpg seems kind of low to me, but I understand the current prius no longer tries to sacrifice everything else for the best possible fuel economy. I think I would prefer the 17 inch wheels with a good tire, but I hate how they botched the design. There is plenty of great looking aero-covered wheels in the market, yet they decided to make these look ugly. Also, why no 18¨ version? I wish I knew all the answers lol. With the hybrid civic coming to the market, I am wondering how much sales it will steal from the prius though. Cheers

Yes! Exactly, it’s such a great little car, even base. And I don’t know if I’d want anything on the higher end since I think the Prius does get a little too expensive on the high end. And yes LOL at Toyota… though I think it was a great engineering idea. You get the great looks of a big 19” wheel without the drag and efficiency penalty of bigger wider tires. So I get it, but it’s definitely a drawback.

Congratulations! Unfortunately no, when vehicles don’t come with spare tires there’s no need for a jack, tire iron, or any of the other kit you normally get. Also, if you plan to road trip frequently I would highly recommend a spare wheel as well so you can swap it out on the side of the road should anything happen.

Talking to a Prius owner recently, she had a flat tire (sidewall puncture) and with no spare she had to tow the car. Nobody had the odd sized tire so they ended up spending the night at a hotel. All in all a $500 ordeal for a flat tire. Put a spare tire in the vehicle Toyota or buy your own as suggested

You make some good points and recommendations. How about getting a donut tire instead?
@joshjamescars
7 ай бұрын
Video coming on this in a couple weeks! The problem with a donut spare is that it’ll only help you limp on home or to your next destination, and because these tires are so obscure you probably won’t find a new, replacement tire once you get there in the event that it can’t be fixed. I’ve had a few subscribers get stuck somewhere because their tires weren’t fixable and a tire shop had to order in a tire which can take a couple days to get in before it can be replaced on your car.

I was told that the Prius battery is not well-suited for highway driving because it works only at low speeds such as in city driving. Is this not true?
@joshjamescars
10 ай бұрын
Short answer, no that’s not true. Long answer, whether we’re talking an RX350h, the Prius, or any other Toyota hybrid, the hybrid drive system is always blending power from the electric motors (powered by the battery) and the gas engine. This is what makes their system a parallel hybrid-it’s always using both sources to power the wheels where serial hybrids only use the gas engine to power the battery like a generator and in turn power the electric motors which drive the wheels. I think what you’ve heard is that the Prius gets better gas mileage in city driving than highway driving (also generally true of most Toyota hybrids) because in slow-speed city driving the blend of power I mentioned above can be more heavily electric if not fully electric in coasting and rolling from stoplight to stoplight or stop and go traffic. This is as opposed to traditional internal combustion only vehicles which are the other way around and get better gas mileage at highway speeds.

Josh if you can only have one for the next 5 years.... your former Nx, this Prius, or the Venza you passed on and why
@joshjamescars
10 ай бұрын
Hello! Oh my gosh that’s such a hard choice. Personally I’d go with the Prius because I just love how easy it is to drive and it’s SO refreshing to drive a car with sedan-like handling as opposed to crossovers and SUVs. I honestly can’t tell you how much I love driving it around, in fact I hardly drive my GX for just running around doing errands and going to work because I love the Prius that much. However, as you know, we have two other SUVs so I don’t need to rely on this car to haul anything around. If the car you buy is going to be your one and only, though, I might do the Venza because it has the cargo space while still giving you all the benefits of a hybrid. And I would skip the NX all day long as I just don’t think it’s worth the price (big reason why I sold it while I could still get almost all of my money back). Even base you’re in the mid-$50K range and that’s a lot to ask for what’s essentially a nicer Venza with the Lexus badge.

The Prius Prime is terrific. Three things you need to know: 1. It can’t have AWD, 2. You need to have a place to plug it in at night to make it worth it, and 3. you’re looking at a long wait-upwards of a year in some places.

@@joshjamescars I don’t need awd. I can charge at home. Usually I have different things in the garage and I think it won’t be very convenient to charge outside when it’s bad weather. I don’t drive much, I don’t know if it’s really worth it since the regular Prius can get close to 60 mpg

@inrussian You can charge outside in any weather, though I’d avoid conditions where the the could get iced over and stuck to the car. But It’s about 20 degrees here and I could have my Rav4 Prime plugged in if I wanted to. Also, yes both the standard Prius and Prius Primes are at least a 2-3 month wait right now because demand for them is so high. We sold ours for more than we paid for it because people want them so badly.
