I went back to Glendora in June 2021 as they had been running this diesel daily and I wanted to get some more manual footage before Athens automated this area. Which happened not too long after.
I think I actually prefer this one over 411 as it seems a lot louder and actually puffs a bit of coal if you look closely enough. Definitely very loud trucks and it’s a shame they no longer work with Athens. The majority of them wound up in Tijuana but this particular unit wound up over at the Calmet yard where they parted it out for parts to use on their Autocar WXLL FLs, which are of the same generation of Amrep as these vehicles. I’d guess that it wound up at the scrap yard after that.
Nonetheless I hope you enjoy, as this is the last of my footage from Athens Service’s famous manual routes. Really wish they were still manual but no question as to the fact that automated is definitely safer. A huge shoutout to all the crews that performed this type of work especially in the hot 100 degree days like the day this was filmed.
Thanks to both crew members for letting me film!
