NOTE: Harry ARCHER (born 1888 in Creston, Iowa - died 1960 in New York) was an American dance band leader and composer in the 1920s and 1930s. His best-known hit was 'I Love You' from the 1923 Broadway musical 'Little Jessie James' • Paul Whiteman - I Love... Harry Archer learned music at home from his mother, then played trombone at the Michigan Military Academy and studied music at Knox College in Galesburg and at Princeton University. He had his own dance orchestra in Chicago from 1916-21 and later played for Paul Whiteman. He appeared as an actor in several silent films. His life changed after he and Harlan Thompson wrote 'Little Jessie James', a farce based on the historical figure of Jesse James. The play had over 400 performances and was later taken to Europe and Australia to have an international career. Harry Archer completed his new band in the second half of 1920s and made a number of very good dance recordings for Brunswick. See his band's performance of "Who?"
