Chemist here 🙋🏾♀️. To answer your question...Yes, hair is dead...but how these products work is they either coat the hair and protect it from future damage (for example oils and silicones) or they penetrate the strands making them stronger within (ex proteins, amino acids). BUT, the only way anything can pentrate hair is the molecule has to be extremely small (usually in the industry these materials are hydrolyzed). Something like protein from egg and mayo is not doing anything; way to large to pentrate hair.

@@JennJackson hey 👋🏾. Teas are great; they contains antioxidants that reduce free radicals on the skin to promote healthy rejuvenation. But here is the catch: tea rinse would not produce an efficacious amount of those antioxidants to produce results. You have to extract the antioxidants from the pure fresh leaves (not from a lipton tea bag) in a special way that we just don't have the equipment to do at home. And on top of that, you need many of those leaves. Did you know you need a ton of a pound of rose petals to make an ounce of rose oil? A perfumer told me that once. So basically what I'm saying it's a waste of time. Just drink the tea 🍵 😋 Second note. If you happen to have that hardcore machinery at home to extract the antioxidants at the right amount (and land to plant millions of tea leaves)...it's only works on the scalp (again has to be hydrolyzed - aka molecules have to be small enough to pentrate the skin or acids acids need to be involved to break the skin down to allow pentration). It does nothing for the hair. Hair is dead. There's no rejuvenating it. Products are only on the market to protect (seal) and build (patching up holes on the outside)/strength it (pentrating then and act as fillers). Hope this helps.

@@JennJackson If I am right. Tea has caffeine which affects the follicles right?! I once learned it prevents the hair from falling, it did in my experience
@apara2005
Жыл бұрын
@@luciaescobarz the caffeine is still not at efficacious levels. The amount of caffeine that affects your body from ingestion is significantly lower than that needed topically. For example, and just making these numbers up because i cant remember the caffeine numbers for skin on the top of my head...to wake you up in the morning you may only need to ingest 100mg of caffeine, but to induce hair follicle activity you'll need 10g. You're not going to extract that much from a tea bag or a few loose tea leaves. You need something pharmaceutical or at least OTC. Your reduction of hair falling was most likely due to your hair care regime changing. You were trying to stop it from happening, so you were taking care of your hair better. Maybe your caffeine treatments were giving you more moisture or the process itself when you were applying.

I love henna and it's a natural plant dye. I feel like the biggest mistakes we do is to extract certain hair care practices from around the world as soon as someone comes up with a viral blog post or video. 😂 We just see and hear long hair and grow hair fast and ignore the rest. Otherwise it's unexplainable how people would for ex. leave rice water in hair when it's originally used to wash hair with it. Or Ayurvedic oil/powder prepoos, people in India wash their hair after. But we just decide to leave every remedy on earth inside our hair and scalp and neglect the actual hair wash. Our hair is not a plant.🙈

I then spent a year protective styling with just my hair and it's got past my entire face with the nape area heading to bra-strap ( just 2inches to get there) 2) cloves - ended up with a bad rash on my face which cleared once I stopped using it. I only used it for a month and never again in this life 3) My scalp was so itchy before until I started using oils buh in small amount once a week. I found out that using it too much makes my scalp burn and itchy and not using it at all also makes it feel that way. Using it in moderation is key for me.

Because of being such a lazy natural, and due to how my mom taught me to care for my hair I avoided all but one of these methods/trends. The only one that got me was the inversion method. It made sense to me that getting more blood flow to the scalp could be beneficial. I didn't have to add any gunk to my hair, didn't have to sleep with wet or oily hair, and didn't have to have my hair stinky. But... after a while, the dizziness and vertigo set in. I enjoyed this video so much (laughed thru out the whole thing!), it's a testament of how we evolve, learn and grow. I never got caught up in KZitem land of hacks in growing hair, the only thing I will admit is becoming a product junkie and losing my coins! I had to really think about it, and it was insane searching for the perfect product (never again). The only method that works is consistency which involves having a structured method of incorporating moisture, conditioning, low manipulation, weekly washing. It's really that simple. I ignored all the distractions of rice water, onions(stinky!) inversion method (didn't want to fall on my head) co-washing and oh let's not forget to mention washing only your scalp and letting the shampoo run down your strands of hair(what!), my common sense told me I needed to wash ALL my hair. Lastly, ladies please continue to uplift and encourage one another. WE ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL AS IS.

What the straight hair community went through over the process of millenniums, the natural hair community is doing in the span of like a decade. If you ever listen to those "ancient" hair histories and rituals and ingredients for straight hair people, they were out here with the eggs and dirt and fungi and hanging upside down craziness, just like us 😅. Some of these were straight cap though, like coming for sectioning; going from something smaller to larger is just common sense for anything, from business to projects, even to education.

I tried the rice water rinse. I gave up when I made it and it started to stink like 3 days later. I also used to make oil blend and use castor oil(haitian here). I tried avocado mask. I mixed it with olive oil. I swore it worked. My hair would feel so soft after that, that I started using it as conditioner. But I stopped after a few weeks because I didn't have time to do it. I am a teacher, I really don't have time. So I started to simplify my wash days. I would wash, condition, apply leave-in conditioner and a cream and style. My style was a low bun that I would keep till next wash day. Then I stumbled upon the no oil, no butter hair care regimen. I contemplated it for weeks until I saw you doing it. You convinced me to try it and I never looked back since. Before I was losing a lot of hair every time I touched my hair. When I stopped using oil I started losing less hair little by little. I swear my hair has never been this long before. I am almost at bra length right now. I am never going back.

Having the barber cut of 14 inches plus of relaxed hair was traumatic… I just wore scarves when possible because I didn’t like my hair at all. I didn’t have a clue as to what I was doing. I used whatever leftover products my daughter had that didn’t work for her because I refused to be a product junkie. I got my hair cut again… lol I’m slowly learning how to twist my hair. I use shampoo or black soap. I condition one week and deep condition another time. I don’t use oil on my scalp, but I do use an oil (hempseed or grape seed) and water to twist my hair. If you young folks have any suggestions… help a sista out. And thanks 🙏🏽 😊

I will also continue to pre-poo primarily because I need to remove most of the shed hair, as my hair is combed at all in between wash days every 2-4 weeks. I never bought into shampoo scalp only/co-wash only/water cleansing because it makes no sense to try to deep condition hair with buildup on it. I was never into rice water etc -- too much work and stank for what a protein based conditioner can do better.

I’m definitely not hopping onto this no oils no butters tend. Not sure how y’all were using them but my hair loves oils and butters. I never put oil on my scalp tho. Since oil is naturally on my scalp. It makes since that that would cause build up. It’s my hair that doesn’t get much oil. If your hair is prone to build up then yeah butters are gonna be too heavy for your hair but if your hair is more porous then applying oils and butters to your hair can help it thrive. I understand where the no oils or butters trend comes from but some people actually need them

How about trims. I spent most of my 11 years being natural not getting a trim because I saw a lot of natural hair videos saying we don’t need trims because you can’t see the split ends in our hair Now that I’m relaxed I get trims every 10 weeks I go get my touch up and now my hair is flourishing. I wish o didn’t follow that trend when I was natural because my hair would been nice.

I use sulfur 8 as well but only makes my scalp feel good for a few days and yet i dont use oil. I also tried clarifying shampoo and protein shampoo and ordinary shampoo still itches

@@africangamergirl3200 I use sulfur 8 light grease, i massage my scalp when it itches, it’s to help stimulate my hair growth and then it stops itching. But if that doesn’t work then you might need to try a new grease because your hair might be eating it up too fast

Thanks for a great laugh! The more I oiled and buttered my scalp, the more inflammed and itchy it got and the more oil I added! Lol!!

I never cowashed my hair or kept my deep condition in my hair long. But they have so much crazy stuff on here telling you to do this and that to your hair. It's crazy so I don't listen to anything that is said lol, its crazy 🤪.

I use ACV after washing and deep conditioning. I have hard water in my area so it really helps and my hair does feel refreshed and smooth after I use it.
