Not enough people know or are aware of social anxeity. They think the reason i dont talk much is i dont like them or im stuck up, when really i do like them but im trapped in fear and cant properly express myself socially. Ive gotten fired from jobs i was pefectly capable of doing, but because my social anxeity i could never express myself. Its seriously a horrible, life inflicting disease that needs more attention so people stop assuming i hate them or am stuck up. That only makes me more socialy ancious and that vicous cycle never stops!

Just tell them that.. they will help you, and be glad to make you happy. Your friends would live to help. They may joke but let them know its serious and they'll help. It's easy, I went through it, and out of nowhere my brain forced me to say "I'm anxious in public, I dont like talking to people because I cant keep conversation" my homeboy saw I was serious and gave me a good talk.. everyone goes through this shit, uts not a special mental problem. You just gotta socialize and use people as a way to step up. Go to a random person and ask for their number and say they're cute, if they say no, you're atleast gonna get some of that girls friends to come up and say hey, and dont even worry about being rejected. You'll never see them again. And for directions when you'relost, just ask someone. You'll never see them again,

I seen on YT that being noticed by your peers when u interact w/ them gets rid of that, bc your operating where your worried about how your coming off to *them*. And another thing I learned: talk is cheap. Seriously, find someone u like and casually chew their ear off about nothing. They'll just give their 2 cents and on it goes. The blabbering attracts more ppl, do literally the same w/ them. Now your holding court. & They'll sense your confidence and rally to you. Now your squad leader. Do this well enough and you got an army, .also, Crowd attention gives you a flow of energy, ask any performer. Your the goat. Be the goat.

Now I use breathing exercises, make sure I've had good sleep, and watch my self-talk, which is the primary cause of my anxieties (poor self esteem when younger bleeds into current fears of rejection). @Starscream91 ... look a bit close at what I wrote. "...accept your perfect imperfections or it won't matter if others wil." So, what do you think I meant by that?? 1- we are imperfect, and THAT is beyond our ability to change. None of us will be morally, ethically, emotionally, intellectually, psychologically, or physically perfect in THIS life... "ACCEPT the things you cannot change" 2- There is no one else exactly like YOU. You are unique to human history by INTENTION. You MATTER, have tremendous value & purpose that is unique to YOU... you are perfect for YOUR life and YOUR purpose.... just be true to YOU, by finding YOUR purpose. "the strength to change the things you can change" 3- Know yourself... find your place in the world, and dont try to be what you aren't. Your value isn't derived from what others think... "the wisdom to know the difference" Those who learn to be comfortable in their own skin, and have good attitudes will never be "losers".

I wished when I was at school there had been a friend like him around when I was growing up.
@maskedbadass6802

I have a theory that school and society generally encourage you to be socially anxious and that's why it's so incredibly common even for grown adults. Remember when you had to speak in front of the class? It comes naturally for many when you talk about fun topics you actually care about or have a passion for, but school gets you in the habit of talk to people about boring topics that nobody actually cares about, and watching your peers get bored makes the experience into a nightmare. Even so, it gets easier the more you do it, but they only make you do it just enough to feel stressed and reset your anxiety, but not enough to actually grow comfortable. It's good to teach kids to avoid strangers when they are very young, but then later we just tell people to "network" and expect them to just figure out how to conquer social anxiety and be smooth after all those years of encouraging them to stay away from others and constantly making them worry about offending people. School makes you feel like you're getting better at socializing, but you're not because you are forced to see the same people every day which is far more comfortable than if you were constantly meeting new people. In fact, if you look at most shy people the only relationships they ever seem to get into are ones where they are forced to interact by school or work. It's an incredibly rewarding skill to be able to have the nerve to walk up to anybody at any time and start a conversation, but it requires so much discipline to conquer your fears and lots of practice in asking open-ended questions. I used to not be able to talk to girls, but now I actually get anxious if I DON'T talk to a girl because it feels like a missed opportunity. I actually conquered my fear of dancing in public way before I figured out how to talk to girls.

Close family (like grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, some 1st cousins and second cousins, etc...) that are not very close (see once or twice a year) is the worse. You basically talk about what you are doing in life if they ask and don't have much to even know what to ask about with them. Then the awkward silence after volleying a small conversation back and forth. Then you migrate away to another area with your sibling at wherever (or someone closer). Then you feel guilty that the family isn't closer and you feel like it's partially your fault.

@fivebythree Force yourself _in small steps_ to do that which gives you anxiety, and I want to emphasize *in small steps.* Eventually you will be "desensitized" to that which causes the social anxiety. It will take some time, but you will overcome the anxiety sooner than you think. Google: _"Cognitive behavioural therapy and social anxiety"_ and learn more. Believe it or not, but many who suffers from different forms of anxiety are also deficient in the two very important minerals Magnesium (-citrate, -malate or -lactate) and Zinc. Try to avoid Magnesium oxide, the uptake is less than 10%.
@tseuren123

@@robert4you not just desensitized but in my experience an encounter going well was also very rewarding, make sure your goal is abtainable and when you fail make sure you dont say '''i cant do it' but '''i cant do it yet' or ''i didn't do it yet'', helped for me anyway. also all the things you think other people think about you or notice about you they most likely wont, your just not that interesting, so when you have those thoughts like ''im sitting weird' or "my facial muscles are acting weird" be aware of those thoughts and analyse them critically because more than likely they are wrong.

@@VikingFitness00 Not sure how old, or how far along in your career but confidence in what I do did a lot to helping me get better with this. I used to keep myself calm by rehearsing a little of what wanted to say in my head, identifying a few people I would move my head to and make eye contact with, and pretend the conversation is with a good friends I haven't seen in awhile. I know it's hard to imagine and might seem like an oversimplification but it would change my demeanor, I would smile when called upon, insert a little humor in my background. My schtick would go a little like this. When called on smile and look around the room while introducing yourself. Hi my name is First Name, Last Name, I went to school for 3D animation and Video game design but quickly found out it's much more fun playing games than making them (which always gets a cheap laugh, disarming the audience), and lead into who I work for and in what department and a little about my day to day duties. To this day I still really don't enjoy speaking in front of large groups but becoming confident in your skill set, having some practice under your belt whether it be in front of a mirror or through real life experience it will get better I promise. I've always been cursed with this irrational fear that everyone's staring at me when I walk into a party or bar or store or parking lot or school hallway or--possibly the worst "walk into" scenario of all--when I'd be late for class and have to open the door and walk what felt like a million miles to my empty seat. Hell, in grade school I was terrified of having it be my turn to "read aloud." When I was about two or three people away I'd always ask to use the bathroom. It's really insane when I think about it, how scared of being the center of attention I was and still am. Now it seems every body can't get ENOUGH attention. Am I off or what?

the confidence you see in the young people these days could stem a lot from the instant validation people get from things like social media and the internet acting as a mask for a lot of people providing a barrier that people of the past just didn't have.

It's interesting when he mentions singing in front of 100,000 is less terrifying than talking to 2 people. It's sort of like a pilot dropping an a-bomb versus personally shooting someone in the face.

Actually it's a popularity contest. People who are the bullies, popular kids and social butterflies make it. That was my ex husband and his friends. I was the loner with few friends. He was in social groups.

Totally with Rob on the anti-bullying thing. It's weird..it's not the kind of thing you want to condone, but it *does* inspire a lot of people toward success. I was bulllied a fair amount as a kid, and while I hated it at the time, it inspired and shaped me in many positive ways.

I was the teen who was too afraid to ask the person behind the counter at Burger King or wherever for extra napkins or ketchup. The young adult afraid to buy clothes for fear of being approached and asked if I needed help. Social anxiety is fucking terrible.
