I lived in LA at the time. They promoted the crap out of that show. His face was on endless billboards, buses, benches, taxis, next to the words: "Chevy Is Coming." Within the first week everyone knew it was terrible, and everyone kept saying he'd get better. Better never came.

Perhaps because the show sucked so badly, even DeNiro knew he was a breath of fresh air. At least compared to watching Chevy try to be funny without a script.

@@finster1968 Fox completely redid his show format. Chevy wanted a completely different show and Fox didn't want what Chevy wanted. So Fox forced Chevy to what was aired. In the end Chevy was right and Fox was wrong.

Yeah, I remember how bad this show was. But, Dinero is a tough interview and rarely gives a good one. I have to say, this is pry one of the better Dinero interviews I've seen. Maybe because its actor to actor.

It's actually really clean cut how this failed. Chase was known for being such an egotistical diva, and so charming on Weekend Update, the two qualities seemed guaranteed to make him a success in late night. Then, for whatever bizarre reason, he was sweaty palmed, shaky and reserved. He pulled all his punches like he was constantly ashamed. It was like he was exposed as a puffed up fraud in front of the nation. It's actually pretty fascinating.

I wish people would quit talking about how nervous Chevy Is on every show that he did hear on this talk show gig. Of course he was nervous, anybody would be in front of millions of people, a new show starting out, hoping it would make it and unfortunately it didn’t. I’ve seen a few of the videos of the interviews that he did and I thought they were wonderful I don’t know why his show failed; it was just as good or better as every other show on television. The thing is...they are very good friends. De niro was tight with the whole early SNL gang..particularly Belushi. That's why De niro is so relaxed here.. it's two buddies.

Many people just want to hate Chevy Chase. They think he appeared out of nowhere, got famous on SNL, left SNL when he should have stayed, and does not deserve any success. What they do not know is that before SNL, he had been writing and performing for 12 years and worked on radio with National Lampoon. I've seen his talk show. It did not suck. It wasn't bad. The problem was (from what I remember) is that most of his guests no one ever heard of.

If I were blind, I would not have been able to see his show. The only thing wrong with his show that I remember was his guests, for the most part, were no one anyone knew or would be interested in. Except for DeNiro and Dan Aykroyd, the guests he had I never heard of, but I have not seen the show since it aired, so I may be wrong on that.

Why all this hate talk? Robert De Niro is such an accomplished actor, all his stuff is top notch. I have never heard anything bad about him. Never heard him in a scandal or anything. Other than in his movies hes virtually invisible. A right wing patriot should be proud of America but tolerant of others. Its about living free and not violating the rights of your neighbor. Has a Jewish person violated your rights or taken away your liberty? Why are you so hateful? I am willing to listen.

@bjroberts65 He was just noticeably nervous, almost so much that it was uncomfortable to watch. Maybe if they gave him more time he would have done better. My personal opinion is that he just didn't prepare enough and put the time in to make it successful. I've seen Chevy in interviews and he is very funny when the pressure is not on him.

Guys like Fallon & Meyers can do the "All right settle down!" To the audience as a joke to tell them quite down I gotta start the interview... Chase "all right that's enough!" Came across as a pissed off Father telling his kids to shut up.

He said, "The better the actor the more stupid he is"--- A 5 star restaurantuer, Hotel owner, Film Producer with a great film company that has quite a solid reputation, Filmmaker ...i'd say bobbyd is intelligent enough...he's not very articulate in front of an audience but he's not a moron.
